EXPOSED: McDonald’s boycotts West Bank

Samarian Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan has charged McDonald’s boycott of Judea and Samaria as illegal under Israeli law, hence that should disqualifiy it from participating in a tender to open a branch at Ben Gurion Airport.

McDonald’s should not be given a tender to open at Ben Gurion Airport because it will not open branches in Judea and Samaria communities, a Samaria leader has charged.

The unwillingness to open McDonald’s franchises in Judea and Samaria is a boycott and therefore illegal under Israeli law, Samarian Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan has charged, Ynet reported.

“A company that boycotts part of the state must not be allowed to compete in government tenders,” Dagan said in a letter this week to Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon, Transport Minister Israel Katz and Airports Authority director-general Yaakov Ganot. Continue Reading »

McDonald’s set to acquire Israel’s Dynamic Yield for $300 million

America’s mega fast-food giant will use Israel’s Dynamic Yield’s technology to change drive-thru menu displays to show trending menu items and food based on time of day, current restaurant traffic and even the weather.

McDonald’s Corp. said on Monday it would buy Israel’s Dynamic Yield, whose technology helps marketers personalize customer interactions, to boost its online marketing efforts.

McDonald’s will pay more than $300 million, a person familiar with the matter said.

McDonald’s refuses to open a branch in Ariel mall

 Israel has refused an offer to open a branch of its restaurant chain in a mall slated to be built in the West Bank settlement of Ariel, according to a report in the Calcalist newspaper.

Tzahi Nahmias, the realtor who is marketing the mall’s commercial space, told the paper that McDonald’s refused to open a branch because Ariel is located beyond the Green Line.

McDonald’s confirmed to that it did not intend to open in Ariel and said that its refusal to operate in the West Bank “had always been the restaurant chain’s policy,” according to the report.
