Gov’t gives final approval for 90 new housing units in Beit El

Israel’s Army Radio reports that the permits for the new units are part of a ‘compensation plan’ for the evacuation of the Ulpana outpost.

The building of 90 new housing units in the Beit El settlement is underway, Army Radio reported Monday. The Civil Administration on Judea and Samaria removed the final obstacle and issued a statement of validation for the construction, according to the report.

Education Minister of Israel fires back at British criticism

Approval granted, Gilo gets 1,200 new housing units

Despite int’l criticism, new building plans in Gilo, Jerusalem’s southern neighborhood, just beyond ‘Green Line’ approved.

Interior and Housing ministries ready to offer construction tenders.

The Interior Ministry announced Monday that the Jerusalem District Zoning Committee has decided to promote the construction of 1,200 housing units in the capital’s Gilo neighborhood.

Gilo is located in south Jerusalem, beyond the Green Line.

The decision followed a hearing on several objections filed against the plan – some by Gilo residents.

The Palestinian Authority will not allow Israeli plans to build in the E1 area of Jerusalem to be realized, PA President Mahmoud Abbas said Saturday, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Abbas said the building plans are “a red line and we will not allow it to happen.”

Speaking at the opening session of the Fatah Advisory Council entitled “statehood and international legitimacy,” the PA president said “we are holding contacts on all levels to stop this Israeli project that aims to sabotage the peace process,” as quoted by Wafa.

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has released a statement condemning Israel‘s decision to go forward with plans to build thousands of new homes in two Jerusalem neighborhoods, Givat Hamatos and Ramat Shlomo.

In addition to the approval of 2,612 housing units in Jerusalem’s Givat Hamatos, Defense Minister Ehud Barak has green-lighted the construction of an additional 523 units in the settlement of Gva’ot, located in the West Bank’s Gush Etzion region, Ynet learned Wednesday.

3,000 New Homes Planed for Existing ‘Settlement Blocs’

The gov’t ministry plans to issue tenders for construction in 3 large Israeli towns in Judea & Samaria.

The Housing Ministry is planning to issue building tenders for projects in three large Israeli towns in Judea and Samaria, Channel 2 reports.

According to the report, the new tenders are part of a plan to allow construction of 3,000 new homes in Israeli communities in the region.

Tenders will be issued for projects in Karnei Shomron, Efrat, and Givat Zev, all of which are located in “settlement blocs” – areas with a large Israeli population that, based on past negotiations, it has been assumed will remain under Israeli sovereignty if a diplomatic agreement is reached with the Palestinian Authority. PA Goes to UN Security Council on Jerusalem Construction Plans

The Palestinian Authority says it will lodge a complaint at the UN Security Council over plans for new housing construction in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Authority said Monday night it will file a complaint with the United Nations Security Council over progress in plans for a housing project in Jerusalem’s Ramat Shlomo neighborhood.

PA officials denounced the decision by Israel’s Interior Ministry to tell developers they must resubmit the plan for “final approval,” reduced by 100 units.

The plan authorized by Interior Minister Eli Yishai in August 2011 called for construction of 1,600 housing units. But after the ministry’s planning committee heard objections at a public meeting held Monday, developers were told they must reduce the number by 100, and make other adjustments before resubmitting the plan for “final approval.” Continue Reading »
