Bennett: Negotiations won’t stop construction in Jerusalem, Judea & Samaria

Bayit Yehudi Chairman and Economics Minister, Naftali Bennett, called Saturday for construction in Judea and Samaria to proceed even after negotiations with the Palestinian Authority (PA) are launched.

“Our insistence on our principles paid off,” Bennett said in a statement following U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s announcement that peace talks were about to resume. “It has been proven that when we insist on our position, negotiations can be carried out without preconditions, without a freeze, and certainly without the delusional demand to carry them out on the basis of [pre-] 67 lines. Gov’t agency ready to build 10,000 new homes

Housing Minister Uri Ariel, urges Netanyahu to solve housing crisis by approving the 10,000 units planned over the pre-1967 lines.

 

 

 

Plans for 10,000 homes over the pre-1967 lines were ready to be marketed in Jerusalem and West Bank settlements, the Minister for Construction and Housing Uri Ariel (Bayit Yehudi) said on Wednesday as he called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to solve his housing crisis by approving the projects.

“We have the ability to market 10,000 housing units in [east] Jerusalem and the settlement blocks in Judea and Samaria,” Ariel told the Knesset Finance Committee during a meeting on the housing budget for 2013-2014.

New housings in Jerusalem approved on eve of Kerry visit

The additional housing units are part of a 1,000-housing unit project approved in August 2011 for Har Homa and other Jerusalem neighborhoods.

 

 

JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Jerusalem municipality issued construction permits to build 69 new housing units in the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Har Homa.

Wednesday’s approval comes a day before the planned arrival of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry as he attempts to bring Israel and the Palestinians back to the peace negotiating table.

The housing units are part of a 1,000-housing unit project approved in August 2011 for Har Homa and other nearby communities.

Israeli officials on Thursday tried to douse a diplomatic fire Channel 10 ignited with its report about two building projects in Jewish neighborhoods of east Jerusalem – of 1,100 units – that have been in the pipeline for years.

These east Jerusalem housing units are a real and official destruction of US Secretary of State John Kerry’s efforts to revive the peace process, Chief PLO Negotiator Saeb Erekat said Thursday.

In response, Israeli officials noted that no new approvals had been given for east Jerusalem housing and that the Palestinians understood this.

The multi-year plan calls for improvement of coordination between official agencies, enlarging the stock of housing plans, especially in the areas where there is high demand, and for a policy of urban renewal.

No new building for Jews in Galilee

 

The gov’t is starting new housing construction in the Arab town Sakhnin and selling new apartments in the Arab village of Umm el-Fahm, but there are almost no new housing construction in any of the Jewish communities.

But, in the farming community of Migdal, only 30 housing units for young couples have been allowed in the last few years.

Tenders to build 1,500 units in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood of east Jerusalem have been delayed by at least three weeks, despite Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s announcement last week that there was no change in policy on settlement building in the area, Army Radio reported Monday.

West Bank Construction Freeze in Effect

Prime Minister tells Housing Minister to halt all new construction projects in Judea and Samaria.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has requested that the Housing Ministry freeze new construction projects in Judea and Samaria (Shomron), IDF Radio (Galei Tzahal) reports.

Netanyahu met with Housing Minister Uri Ariel and asked him to halt promotion of new projects in the region, including by no longer putting up for bids tenders on new projects.

Just days ago Ariel said that if the state budget did not include funding for promised construction in Judea and Samaria, such as the planned project in E1 in Maaleh Adumim, his party would not support the budget. Continue Reading »

New Home Construction in Emanuel for 1st Time in 30 Years

For the 1st time in 3 decades, new homes are being constructed in the Samaria community of Emanuel.
