REPORT: The US convinces Israel to sell Iron Dome to Saudi Arabia

Saudi-based media reports Saudi Arabia turned to the U.S. to facilitate sale after previously being rejected by Israel because the two countries have no diplomatic relations and the defense system may be activated against it.

The Saudi-based Al-Khaleej Online reported today that Saudi Arabia had acquired an Iron Dome system from Israel to defend itself from missile attacks by the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

According to the report, the deal was mediated by the United States, in which the Saudis undertook that the system would not endanger Israel or its allies.

Israeli security sources say this is a significant development in the relationship between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Continue Reading »

Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system showcased at annual US military gathering

Pentagon showing increasing interest in purchasing Israel’s Iron Dome, which was developed in collaboration with the US’s Raytheon Company, and currently on display at the 3-day Association of the US Army convention.

The Iron Dome missile defense system has been installed in Washington DC as part of a presentation during the annual meeting of the Association of the US Army (AUSA) showcasing the latest radar technology and operational launchers.

The Defence Ministry and the Missile Defense Agency began handing over control of the David’s Sling air defense system to the Israel Air Force on Tuesday.

The development comes after a series of successful trials were completed in December, said the Ministry’s Home Administration, which is in charge of developing missile defenses.
