Former Soviet ‘refusenik’ and Israel’s current Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, will address the upper house of the Russian Parliament, first in Hebrew …and then continue in his mother-tongue Russian, further developing the excellent ties between both countries.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein will become the first Israeli official to address the upper house of the Russian Parliament this week, a historic first holding even greater significance as he was a Prisoner of Zion in the Soviet Union.

German Parliament President: EU labeling decision “unnecessary and unwise”

 

Bundestag President says Germany rejects settlement labeling, and understand Israel’s anger, “Because it’s specifically against Israel, I repeat that it is unnecessary and not very smart,” Lammert said.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein also addressed the labeling issue in his speech to the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

Albania is proof Israel and a Muslim country can have close ties

Albania is proof that Israel can have good relations with Muslim countries, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein said in a meeting with his Albanian counterpart Ilir Meta Wednesday.

“Albania is a Muslim country that shows things can be different,” Edelstein told Meta, who is visiting Israel for the first time. “Israel-Albania relations are continuing to grow closer and I that your visit hear will contribute to that.”

Edelstein also pointed out that Albania saved all of its approximately 800 Jewish residents during the Holocaust and had a larger Jewish population after World War II than it did before. Continue Reading »

British Prime Minister David Cameron Addresses Israel’s Knesset

British Prime Minister David Cameron addressed attempts to boycott Israel in his Knesset address today, and conveyed a clear message: “Britain opposes the boycott against Israel.”

“We want to right the wrongs of the past,” Cameron stated. “We believe in democracy and the freedom and equality of all religions. Israel’s delegitimization is wrong, and we will make sure it fails.”

Regarding the recent push to ban kosher slaughter (shechita) in the UK, Cameron added that “ritual slaughter will be legal in the UK as long as I am Prime Minister.”

Edelstein threatens to scrub Cameron’s Knesset visit if opposition won’t behave

 

Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein demands in meeting with opposition leaders, that they do not ‘disrespect the Knesset and the government’ during the UK’s prime minister’s visit.


 

 

UK Prime Minister David Cameron may not address the Knesset as scheduled on Wednesday, if Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein cannot ensure that opposition MKs will behave appropriately and not cause a diplomatic incident.

In a meeting with opposition party leaders, Edelstein said “I demand that you do not sabotage Cameron’s visit. As long as you protest in a political framework, it is acceptable, but some things are untenable.

French President Francois Hollande is not welcome in the Knesset, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein declared Wednesday.

Hollande decided to speak to university students, not the Knesset, during his visit to Israel in three weeks, and Edelstein responded to the snub in kind.

“Whoever disrespects the Knesset does not deserve the Knesset’s respect,” Edelstein wrote on Facebook.
