Several key Labor members abstain from vote on bill calling of public transportation on Shabbat

Several Laborparty members, including Chairwoman Shelly Yachimovich, chose to abstain from a Knesset vote Wednesday on a bill calling for public transportation on Shabbat.

While Labor is seen as a traditional supporter of secular causes, several key party members stayed away from the vote, where the bill calling for Shabbat buses was defeated.

Yachimovich already declared her objection to such bill in the past, arguing that it would cause “deep social harm.”

Meanwhile, Labor member Isaac Herzog said that the party faces deep disagreements on the issue and has not yet formulated its stance on it. Continue Reading »

Simcha Jacobovici, an Emmy-winning documentary director and producer, hopes findings of current explorations will substantiate his earlier theory that Jesus was buried in a nearby cave.

Between the rockets falling around them every day and the non-stop terror and smuggling attempts along the border, the soldiers of the Nahal Brigade enjoyed a gourmet meal this week. A team of chefs, sponsored by the Taglit Project, arrived at their base along the Israel-Gaza border, and showed the soldiers that an army meal can be more than the same old chicken and rice.

Major rise in Kinneret water levels prompts Israel water company to dismantle artificial dam

The rainy winter Israel has experienced this year has led to a vast rise in the Kinneret’s water levels, prompting the Mekorot Water Company to dismantle an artificial dam it had been using to enable pumps to reach the water.

The Kinneret’s water levels have risen by 2.5 centimeters in just the past 24 hours, and the month of January saw the highest number of rainy days in one month on record in Israel, according figures from the Israel Meteorological Service.

New blood test offers early cancer detection

The simple new check shows a 90 percent detection rate in clinical tests for multiple types of cancers.
