From France to Israel: 8 French friends now serve in the same IDF combat unit

Dan Maimon, who made aliyah with 7 of his friends from France, is now serving in the same IDF combat unit with them, says, “It did not fit for us to live in France… We know that we made the right decision & are contributing to Israel’s security.”

Eight friends in France decided to make aliyah two years ago on Rosh Hashana. Last November, they fulfilled a childhood dream and enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces. The group of friends has since remained together, and serve in the same company in the Kfir Infantry Brigade’s Nahal Haredi battalion.

“We are going through a long journey together,” Dan Maimon, one of the eight, said on Tuesday. “We decided to realize our dreams and make aliyah to enlist in the IDF and have a fulfilling service in a combat unit.”

Like his friends, Maimon left his parents and siblings behind in France to come join the IDF.

“It did not fit for us to live in France,” Maimon said. “The Muslims are getting stronger, and it was clear to us that our place was in Israel. Now, after almost a year in the IDF, on operational duty in the Jenin area, we know that we made the right decision and are contributing to Israel’s security.”

The eight soldiers also delivered a message. “We want to wish all of Israel and our families in France a happy new year and happy holiday. May this be a year of security and great prosperity!”
