In what seems as two coordinated attacks targeting top Palestinian Islamic Jihad commanders, after the assassination of Baha Abu Al-Ata in Gaza, reports emerged from Syria claiming that the home of senior figure Akram al-Ajouri was attacked on Tuesday morning.
“This morning, the home of a leader of the Jihad movement Akram al-Ajouri was attacked, which resulted in the killing of his son Mu’ad, another person, and wounding 10, including his daughter,” state news agency SANA said.
The Islamic Jihad group confirmed Ajouri’s son had been killed in the attackץ
According to Syrian reports, two rockets were launched by the Israeli military, one of them intercepted and the other had a direct hit on the home of Ajouri in Damascus.
The prominent Islamic Jihad figure is the deputy of the group’s leader, Ziad al-Nakhalah, who also lives in the Syrian capital, Hebrew-language outlet Ynet reported.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said that “it does not refer to foreign reports.”
Since civil war erupted in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in the neighboring country.
Most have been against what Israel said were Iranian targets or positions of Iran’s Lebanese ally, Shiite militant group Hezbollah.
This time, however, it seems the target was aimed at the Palestinian terrorist group, which one of his seniors was assassinated Tuesday morning in the Gaza Strip.
