Polish Justice Minister seeks to ban use of misleading phrase: ‘Polish death camp’

Poland’s Justice Minister says, “Enough with this lie.” Poles are maligned worldwide because of this misleading phrase, which suggests then-occupied Poland was culpable for the camps, when the Nazis ordered them built on its soil.

Poland is drawing up new regulations to punish use of the phrase “Polish death camps” when referring to the wartime Nazi concentration camps on Polish soil, Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro said on Saturday.

Poland has long sought to eliminate the misleading phrase from historical and newspaper accounts since it suggests that the country, which was occupied by Nazi Germany throughout World War II, was responsible for the camps set up on its territory. Continue Reading »

Merkel joins US vets & Jewish survivors marking 70th anniversary of Dachau liberation

Police in Holland stop vendor from selling ‘Holocaust soap’, said made from Jewish bodies

NRC website reports vendor being investigated for attempting to sell soap online for 199, along with dentures, tooth brushes and glasses from Jewish victims of the Nazis.

The Dutch newspaper NRC reported Wednesday that police in north Holland are investigating an antiquities vendor who reportedly attempted to sell soap that had been made during the Holocaust, which he claimed was made from bodies of Jewish victims killed in Nazi extermination camps.

Soap reportedly from Holocaust was being sold online.

The vendor reportedly attempted to sell the soap for 199 euro.

The troubling news came from historian Arthur Haraf, who said the vendor offered to sell objects that he found near a concentration camp, from which Dutch Jews were sent to extermination camps.

Museum directors protest misleading term: ‘Polish death camps’

Directors of Polish museums of Nazi camps criticized the decision not open an investigation of the term ‘Polish death camps’ used by the German newspaper Rheinische Post.

WARSAW, Poland — Directors of museums located at the sites of former Nazi death camps are protesting a Polish prosecutor’s office decision not to initiate an investigation into the phrase “Polish death camps.”

On Monday, a joint letter to the Polish Attorney General and Polish Minister of Justice signed by the heads of state museums at Auschwitz, Belzec, Sobibor, Treblinka, Kulmhof, Stutthof, Gross-Rosen and Majdanek , criticized the decision not open an investigation, saying that it undermines national efforts to eradicate the use of the term.
