Report: Iran Supplying Weapons to Gaza, but Not to Hamas

Iran is still supplying weapons to Gaza, but they are intended for groups other than Hamas, according to the Israel Defense website.

The affair between the Hamas terror group and Iran may be over, but the Islamic Republic is still supplying weapons to Gaza, according to Amir Rapaport of the Israel Defense website.

In a report Friday, Rapaport noted that the root of the conflict between the terror group and Iran lies with Syria.

“Iran and Hamas reached a point of conflict following Hamas’ unwillingness to support Bashar al-Assad’s actions against his own people,” wrote Rapaport, also noting how Hamas has even begun to fold in on itself in Syria. Continue Reading »

Report: Hamas holds dozens of drivers in Gaza power crisis

Dozens of taxi drivers apprehended for allegedly spreading ‘rumors’ about the territory’s worst power crisis in years, officials say.

Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza have detained dozens of taxi drivers for allegedly spreading “rumors” about the territory’s worst power crisis in years, officials said Monday.

The detentions, which began over the weekend, signaled that the Islamic
militant Hamas is increasingly concerned about the political fallout from
crippling shortages of fuel and electricity.

Authorities did not explain what got the drivers in trouble, beyond saying
the “rumors” had to do with the energy crisis.

However, residents say there’s growing talk among Gazans that Hamas is
keeping separate supplies of fuel for its government and loyalists, a claim
Hamas denies.

The delivery of around 450,000 liters of industrial diesel was the first to Gaza’s only power station coming via Israel in almost a year after Hamas softened on its resistance to accepting supplies from its Jewish neighbor.
The fuel is enough to power the plant, which serves two thirds of Gaza’s population, for one day, an official from Gaza’s energy authority said.

Israel to Transfer Diesel to Gaza

Gaza energy crisis over? Israel to transfer 450 thousand liters of industrial diesel for the Gaza power station.

Israel will transfer 450 thousand liters of industrial diesel to Gaza on Friday for the Gaza power station.

The Palestinian Authority in Ramallah has reportedly purchased the fuel from the Israeli Dor Alon company and it will enter Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing. The Coordinator of Government Activities in Yesha, Maj. Gen. Eitan Dangot, has agreed to open the crossing on Friday, when it is normally closed, for the purpose of transferring the diesel.

The shortage of fuel in Gaza caused a power crisis that triggered lengthy blackouts in Hamas-run Gaza last month. Continue Reading »

Egypt-Gaza Power Struggle Leaves PA Arabs in the Dark

Gaza’s Hamas rulers are caught between their rage at Israel and their distaste for having to cooperate with Egypt.

The result has been a wintry region without electricity and, within the next few days, the situation will reach crisis proportions if the leadership does not come up with a solution.

Storage tanks in which fuel was kept as a back-up have been drained nearly dry; basic infrastructure is now threatened, local sources say.

However, Hamas did not expect Egypt to balk at the intransigence so long tolerated by a Jewish State that had formerly supplied Gaza with electricity even during the 2006 war, and subsequently during Operation Cast Lead. Continue Reading »

Want to promote Israel in the U.K.? Recognize 1967 borders

Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority cancels ad by Israel’s tourism ministry in London after it promoted a book on northern Israel without properly demarcating the Golan Heights as a disputed area.

Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) cancelled an advertisement by Israel’s Ministry of Tourism in London which attempted to promote a new book on northern Israel. The reason for the cancellation of the ad, which was first published in British newspapers in November 2011, was the fact that the map that was attached to it did not properly demarcate the 1967 borders in the Golan Heights and the West Bank.

The ASA received no less than 350 complaints against the advertisement, as it is the body that oversees advertisements in media outlets and billboards throughout the kingdom.

Hamas Blockades Itself

Hamas has refused to accept fuel from Israel and now is coping with a deepening economic crisis by offering free lifts to workers.

Hamas has refused to accept fuel from Israel and now is coping with a deepening economic crisis by offering free lifts to workers.

The de facto Hamas government in Gaza ordered civil servants to offer rides to people during daytime work hours in order to survive the self-imposed lack of fuel.

In addition, Hamas cut in half the fuel allowances for its 1,800 official cars, according to the Bethlehem-based Ma’an news agency.

Hamas ministers said the lack of fuel is due to the alleged Israeli blockade, which has in effect been lifted on all materials not used for terrorist activities, but the local administration has refused Israel’s offers to continue fuel shipments. Continue Reading »

Lieberman says EU foreign policy chief Ashton should retract her comparison of Toulouse murders with deaths in Gaza.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Tuesday that European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton should retract her comparison of the Toulouse murders with deaths in Gaza.

Ashton responded to the cold-blooded murder of a rabbi and three Jewish children in Toulouse by saying, “When we think of what happened in Toulouse today, when we remember what happened in Norway a year ago, when we know what is happening in Syria, when we see what is happening in Gaza and in different parts of the world – we remember young people and children who lose their lives.” Continue Reading »

Gaza’s tunnel tycoons

Some 600 new millionaires made their fortunes by smuggling goods in Gaza tunnels, at the expense of thousands of workers risking their lives. Social uprising on the way?

The Gaza Strip usually makes headlines for rocket launching and IDF raids, but the daily lives of its residents are mostly affected by poverty, unemployment, faulty infrastructure and Hamas government corruption. A new study shows that in the past five years a new class of young millionaires emerged in Gaza.

The Gaza blockade enabled many to capitalize on the smuggling of goods via the Rafah tunnels. A new class of 600 young “tunnel millionaires” made their fortunes often at the expense of thousands of workers risking their lives in the tunnels. Continue Reading »
