NYT: Iranian president donates $400,000 to Tehran’s Jewish hospital

New York Times’ Tehran bureau chief reports on Twitter that Hassan Rohani has made the donation to the institution, which also serves non-Jews.

 

 

Iran’s President Hassan Rohani has reportedly donated $400,000 to Tehran’s Jewish hospital.

Thomas Erdbrink, the New York Times Bureau Chief in the Iranian capital, tweeted the information Wednesday, citing the semi-official Mehr news agency. The Jewish hospital in Tehran also serves non-Jews, he said.

This is not the first time that such a donation has been reported.

In an interview with NBC on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei cannot be trusted because he heads a “cult” that is “wild in its ambition and aggression” adding it is a “messianic, apocalyptic, radical regime.”

Asked whether he believes the Iranians chose to elect President Hassan Rohani because they want change and a lifting of the sanctions, Netanyahu said he’s sure they do, but stressed that Iranians are not governed by Rohani but by Ayatollah Khamenei. Continue Reading »

1st time since 1979: Obama, Rohani talk on phone, says deal possible

US President Obama says there is a unique opportunity to make progress with the new Iranian gov’t.

U.S. President Barack Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rohani spoke by phone on Friday, the highest-level contact between the two countries since the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and a sign that both sides are serious about reaching a pact on Iran’s nuclear program.
