Dear Professor Hawking,

I heard this morning on the radio that you decided to cancel your attendance in Israel’s president conference, and joined the academic boycott against Israel. You could not chose a more appropriate date then May eighth, the day Nazi Germany surrendered in 1945 and the day I joined the occupation army of Israel in 1985, to speak out loud and clear against occupation and oppression.

AJC to Israel: Act Expeditiously to Reverse Academic Boycott’

The American Jewish Committee has expressed outrage over the Association of Asian American Studies’ (AAAS) endorsement of an academic boycott against Israeli academic institutions.

Pro-Palestinan protestsA resolution favoring the boycott was adopted at the national organization’s recent annual meeting, though only ten percent of the membership reportedly voted.

Asian-American Academic Association Adopts Boycotting Israeli Academia

The AAAS resolution passed unanimously, accusing Israeli universities of being complicit in violations of int’l law by the Israeli gov’t.

The Association for Asian American Studies voted in favor of boycotting Israeli academic institutions.

The academic nonprofit, known by the acronym AAAS, passed the vote last week during its annual conference in Seattle, according to Inside Higher Ed.

The resolution calling for a boycott passed unanimously and accused Israeli universities of being complicit in violations of international law by the Israeli government.

Teachers Union of Ireland brands Israel ‘apartheid state’ & calls for boycott

 

Ireland’s Teachers Union passed a resolution urges all its members to cease all collaboration with the State of Israel.

The Teachers Union of Ireland has adopted a resolution in support of an academic and cultural boycott of Israel, which the union called an “apartheid state.”

The motion, passed unanimously on April 4 during the union’s annual congress, calls for “all members to cease all cultural and academic collaboration with Israel, including the exchange of scientists, students and academic personalities, as well as all cooperation in research programs,” according to a report on the website of the Center for Research of Globalization. Students at Oxford University to Vote on Boycotting Israel

Britain’s Oxford University students will vote later this week on a controversial motion of weather or not to boycott Israel.

Students at Britain’s prestigious Oxford University will vote this week on a highly controversial motion to boycott Israel.

 

The Oxford University Student’s Union (OUSU) is set to meet Wednesday to decide on a motion to join the international boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement “in protest of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and its hindrance of attempts to create a Palestinian state,” The Guardian reported.

The vote comes following increased tensions on campus last week as British lawmaker George Galloway walked out of a lecture hall during a debate with an Israeli student, saying “I don’t recognize Israel and I don’t debate with Israelis,” after becoming aware of his opponent’s nationality. Germany’s German Der Spiegel magazine claimed Monday that Israeli producers evade European Union legislation and falsely mark products made in the Golan Heights and the West Bank as “made in Israel.”

A Kuwaiti MP has called for an official probe of country’s interior minister for allegedly violating anti-Israel laws by establishing direct business ties with Israel.

A Kuwaiti parliamentarian on Sunday called for an official investigation of the country’s interior minister for allegedly establishing business ties with an Israeli company and for failing to control opposition-led protests.

Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi greets Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah al-AhmedShiite lawmaker Faisal al-Duwaisan claimed that the interior ministry has purchased a border security system to fortify the emirate’s border with Iraq from SENSTAR Corp in Canada, AFP reported.

A group of pro-Palestinian activists occupied UEFA’s headquarters and met with its president Michel Platini on Friday to protest Israel’s hosting of the European Under-21 Championship.

Protesters chanted slogans and carried banners and placards critical of Platini before some were invited into his office following a meeting of his executive committee.

Europeans are to vote this week on whether to allow Israeli medical imports, or continue to support the Palestine Solidarity Campaign lobby.

The vote by the European Parliament in Strasbourg is on the Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance  (ACAA) of industrial products between Israel and the EU. If approved, Israel will export to Europe thousands of euros’ worth of life-saving medications at a much lower price, due to the ability of generic pharmaceutical firm Teva to produce them. The American rock group is scheduled to perform in Istanbul on Saturday evening before heading to Tel Aviv.
