Dutch firefighting couple are first responders on Gaza border

With the estimated 100 fires that the Palestinian incendiary devices created along the Gaza border last week alone, Raymond and Mirjam Reijnen returned to be professional firefighters on their Gaza border kibbutz, as they were in the Netherlands before immigrating to Israel.

Raymond and Mirjam Reijnen fight fires lit by Gaza balloons so often, that a rolled up volunteer firefighters’ uniform, a mask, and a pair of boots are permanently stashed outside their front door in Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

“Firefighters here have their suits outside,” Raymond said.

“There is no time to search for your things,” said Mirjam, adding that in their case they have only one, because “we wear the same size.” Continue Reading »

Israeli Druze firefighter puts himself in danger by jumping into flames of burning synagogue in northern Israel to save a Torah scroll from burning.

Druze firefighter Wiam Nevoani saved a Torah scroll from a burning synagogue on Monday, endangering his life.

Nevoani, a resident of the Druze village of Julis in northern Israel, told Channel 20 about the experience.

Jordan, Italy, France, Spain & Palestinians in Israel for regional emergency exercise

Israel hosts massive joint emergency response exercise including professional teams from Israel, Jordan, Spain, Italy, France and the Palestinian Authority, participating in multiple-faceted drills of extreme-case scenarios inflicting havoc on a regional scale.

Some 400 firefighters from five countries arrived in Israel this week to participate in a massive regional emergency exercise.

Emergency response teams from Israel, Jordan, Italy, France and Spain, as well as teams from the Palestinian Authority, came together Tuesday to drill an extreme-case scenario in which a huge wildfire burns its way from country to country, wreaking havoc on a regional scale. Continue Reading »
