As Winter Approaches, Jordan River Reaches Record Low

 

The Galilee’s Jordan River water level is at 90-year low following years of inadequate rainfall.

Israel is on the cusp of another major drought with authorities reporting that the water flowing from the northern portion of the Jordan River into the Sea of Galilee is at a record low.

The Jordan River is the primary water source for the Sea of Galilee, which is in turn Israel’s primary fresh water reservoir.

And the water pressure today is lower than it’s been in the past 90 years, or since such measurements began.

Jordan’s tributary, the Hatzbani left side (after the River Dan merged) merges with the Banias (right side) to form the Jordan River, Feb.

Israel to clear landmines around ancient churches and monasteries near Jericho

Once HALO Trust, a humanitarian organization, has cleared the landmines, the land & churches along the western bank of the Jordan River can be visited once more in safety.

Qasr al-Yahud, a site just north of the Dead Sea near Jericho, where many Christians believe Jesus was baptized, will be cleared of landmines and other ordnance, a half-century after Israel took control of the area during the 1967 Six-Day War.

The Defense Ministry will carry out the clearing operation together with the HALO Trust, which describes itself as “the world’s largest humanitarian mine clearance organization.” Continue Reading »

Israel & Jordan launch joint Jordan River industrial zone project

 

Tender issued to construct bridge across Jordan River that would connect new industrial zones on both sides of the river in binational project.

Israel has issued a tender for the construction of a new bridge across the Jordan River which would connect it with its neighbor from the east, the Ministry for Regional Cooperation said Sunday.

The bridge will be part of the “Jordan-gate” project, which will see the establishment of a joint industrial zone between the two countries.

The tender was issued through the Valley of Springs Regional Council in northern Israel, on whose land the industrial area will be built. Continue Reading »

On the diplomatic stage, Palestinians and Israelis have not held direct peace talks since April 2014. But on Tuesday and Wednesday, activists and officials from both governments as well as from Jordan met at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea for the second time this year about water.
