Israel unveils AI-powered assault rifle

Elbit says ARCAS, which is dubbed the “smartphone for soldiers”, can be attached to assault rifles such as M-16 variants or the Israeli made Tavor, to allow detection of enemies on the run, then mark & lock in on them, so the soldier could again detect them during urban warfare.

Israeli defense electronics company Elbit Systems unveiled its new AI-Powered, Computerized Solution for Assault Rifles, which transforms assault rifles into digitally networked combat machines, and it is expected to make a big difference on the battlefield.

The ARCAS weapon system can detect enemies on the run, mark, and lock in on them, so the soldier could easily detect them, a critical component of urban warfare. Continue Reading »

BUSTED: Terrorist Group from ‘Peace Partner’ Fatah Arrested

IDF & Shin Bet arrest terrorist cell who attacked a soldier & stole his weapon.

The Shin Bet, Israel Police and IDF have exposed and arrested a terror cell whose members infiltrated an IDF base on December 21, 2012, attacked a soldier on sentry duty and stole his weapon, an M-16.

The cell belonged to the Fatah movement, which is headed by Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Its members are residents of the Kalandia and a-Ram neighborhoods of Jerusalem. It is made up of five men aged 25 to 37, one of whom is an Israeli citizen. Continue Reading »

The I.D.F. bids adieu to the M-16

Over the past 10 years, more & more active units have taken up the Tavor to the point that the aging M-16 is largely seen as the weapon of reserve soldiers.

For decades the American-made M-16 assault rifle has been the personal weapon of choice in the Israeli army. But that is coming to an end as more and more units look to outfit their soldiers with Israeli-made weapons.

In the early 2000s, Israel first introduced the homegrown Tavor rifle into service with select active infantry units. Over the past 10 years, more and more active units have taken up the Tavor to the point that the aging M-16 is largely seen as the weapon of reserve soldiers. Continue Reading »
