Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull presided over the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on defense between the two nations Monday.

Prime Minister Turnbull is in Israel to participate in a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle for Be’ersheva, which was liberated by British and Australian forces on October 31, 1917.

Netanyahu told his Australian counterpart that Israelis admired Australia because it has “taken part in virtually all the battles for freedom in the last 100 years.” Continue Reading »

REPORT: Australian Foreign Minister open to 1-state solution if both Israelis & Palestinians agreed

 

PM Malcolm Turnbull’s affirmation of Australia’s committed to the 2-state solution policy to the Israel-Palestinian conflict contradicted those made by Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, who stated that if both sides agree upon a 1-state solution, Australia would recognize it.

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said Thursday that she would support a one-state solution if it were agreed upon by both the Israelis and the Palestinians, Sky News reported.

The comment comes ahead of Prime Minster Netanyahu’s visit to Australia, slated for Monday, making it the first time an Israeli prime minister has ever travelled to the country in an official capacity. Continue Reading »

REPORT: Australia’s Newly Sworn In Prime Minister Has ‘Jewish Roots’

 

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who was sworn in Tuesday, has expressed interest at a meeting in August that Australia should collaborate much more with Israel.

Australia has a new prime minister – one who claims to have Jewish roots and has also expressed a desire in advancing and increasing relations with Israel.

Malcolm Turnbull, a former communications minister, was sworn in on Tuesday as Australia’s latest leader, replacing outgoing prime minister Tony Abbott.
