PA’s Erekat: Israel Must Choose – Peace or ‘Settlements’

Chief negotiator for the PA again blames Israel for the lack of progress in peace talks, says negotiations don’t need to be extended.

The chief Palestinian Authority (PA) negotiator, Saeb Erekat, on Monday once again blamed Israel for the lack of progress in peace talks, saying that the Israelis must choose between “settlements” and peace.

Speaking with reporters following PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama, Erekat accused Israel of having built more than 10,000 homes in Judea and Samaria since the negotiations began last July.

Speaking to youth activists of his Fatah party and quoted by The Associated Press (AP), Abbas unequivocally declared that there is “no way” he will recognize Israel as a Jewish state and accept a Palestinian capital in just a portion of eastern Jerusalem.

Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is threatening to end the negotiations with Israel unless it freezes construction in Judea and Samaria.

Abbas’s threats came during his meeting on Monday with Meretz Chairwoman MK Zehava Galon. “I will put the keys on the table and turn to international organizations,” he declared during that meeting.

“The only way we will agree to extend the talks is if Netanyahu announces a settlement freeze and the release of other prisoners beyond the next scheduled release,” Abbas told Galon. Continue Reading »

US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro declared Friday that the Palestinian Authority (PA) will be obligated to recognize Israel as a Jewish state under the US framework agreement – despite the PA’s ongoing defiance over the issue.

IDF Radio Report: White House Demands Settlement Freeze

US negotiation team is set to force Israel to stop selling housing to Jews outside the recognized large settlement blocs, according to IDF Radio.

The US team in the negotiations for peace between Israel and the “Palestinians” has demanded that Israel agree to an “informal” freeze of settlement activity outside the large settlement blocs, according to IDF Radio. The freeze will go into effect immediately after the signing of a framework agreement.

Secret Cabinet Session Held on BDS Without Leftist Ministers

Tzipi Livni & Yair Lapid, who defended John Kerry’s boycott threats, weren’t invited to a cabinet session on the boycott against Israel.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu convened a secret discussion regarding the BDS threat to Israel, and did not invite the ministers of Yesh Atid and Hatnua to the session, reported Maariv‘s Eli Berdenstein Monday.

BDS – or Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions – is the name of the movement to boycott Israel.

The discussion was originally scheduled for 10 days ago, but was rescheduled for Sunday. Unlike the originally planned meeting, reports Maariv, many ministers were not invited to Sunday’s discussion – including Yesh Atid’s Yair Lapid, Yaakov Perry and Shai Piron, as well as Justice Minister Tzipi Livni.
