Business Insider puts IDF at top of list of 15 strongest regional armies, saying Israel has space assets, drones, advanced jets, nuclear weapons, & “the Israeli Air Force is the best in the world.”

Although the balance of power and geopolitical interests have rapidly shifted in the Middle East in recent years, it appears Israel has managed to maintain — at least for the time being — its military supremacy, according to the news website Business Insider. On Monday the website published its ranking of the 15 strongest armies in the region, and put the Israel Defense Forces at the top.

Israel ranks ‘very high’ as 19th on the UN index, just before France

• Norway, Australia, Switzerland, Netherlands & U.S. make up top 5
• “State of Palestine” is rated as 107th with Lebanon (65), Turkey (69), Iran (75), Jordan (77), Egypt (110) and Syria rated as (118).

Israel ranks 19th in the world in the United Nations’ Human Development Index for 2014, according to the U.N.’s 2014 Human Development Report released Thursday.

Israel is among 49 nations the report ranks as having “very high human development.” The report, titled “Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Building Resilience,” states that the Human Development Index is a measure of achievements in key dimensions such as a long and healthy life, access to knowledge, and a decent standard of living.

Statistics: 50% of young drivers involved in fatal car accidents are Arab-Israelis

An Israel Police report reveals disturbing information regarding those involved in fatal car accidents in recent years. Arab mayor says high proportion of Arab fatalities are due to poor infrastructure & harsh economic situation.

Some 45% of those killed in car accidents since the beginning of the year are members of the Arab community in Israel, a police report released Monday says. Even worse, half of the young drivers involved in fatal car accidents are from the Arab sector.

Israel’s elderly are reported poorest in Western world

 

Prior to pensions & tax the poor are in great shape in relation to global situation. But after – the picture changes completely.

Taub Center report says 1/5th of Israel’s elderly live below the poverty level – 7 times more than in most developed countries.

Death of the Israeli welfare state: poverty rates among the elderly in Israel are the highest in the developed world, with a huge margin in comparison to most countries. This is according to a new study by the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel published Tuesday.

The research conducted by the center’s executive director, Professor Dan Ben-David, and researcher Haim Bleikh, shows that based on their disposable income (after welfare payments, national security benefits and taxes), 21% of Israel’s elderly live below the poverty line. Continue Reading »

Graphic website Doghouse Diaries releases new map indicating what each country’s claim to fame is. The map has Israel leading in Research & Development, Jordan in falafel size and Iran in brain drain.
