New Hamas Law in Gaza Mandates Lashes, Amputations to Replace Western Law

Hamas replaces adapted 80 yr-old Western laws with Sharia system. Hamas rivals condemn replacement law for ‘widening split,’ threatening ‘multicultural Palestinian society.’

Hamas, the terrorist group governing Gaza, has replaced a nearly 80-year-old law with a harsh new one based on Sharia Islamic law. The new rules stipulate severe punishments such as lashes and amputations.

Faraj Al Ghoul, Legal Department head of Gaza’s Palestinian Legislative Council, announced the Gazan parliament will put the new law into effect, replacing Ordinance Number 74 that has been on the books since 1936. The ordinance, which was part of the British Mandate Criminal Code, outlawed same-sex acts between men. Continue Reading »

Isolation is Pushing Hamas to Further Radicalize

 

 

Hamas is dictating ever harsher Sharia restrictions on the Palestinians of Gaza as it loses backing throughout the region.

Hamas finds itself increasingly isolated and under pressure after the fall of its Muslim Brotherhood patrons in Egypt, the combined Israeli-Egyptian effort to shut down Gaza’s smuggling and terror tunnels, and Iran’s newfound reluctance to fund the group.

Gaza’s Christians Concerned as Hamas Bans Co-Ed Schools

Another strict Islamic sharia law was passed banning co-ed schools in Gaza leaves Christians worrisome that their schools are in danger of closure.

A new law passed by the Hamas government in Gaza banning co-ed schools has left many Christians fearful that their schools are in danger of closure, according to the Beirut-based Al-Akhbar daily.

The new law, which mandates gender segregation in all schools, also bans men from teaching at girls’ schools. The law will likely force Christian educational institutions to close their doors to Muslim and Christian students alike, reported the newspaper.

Samer Badra, financial director of the Patriarchate Schools in Gaza, told Al-Akhbar, “Implementing the new education law will force Gaza’s Christian institutions to build new facilities and hire new employees to comply with the articles. Continue Reading »

Gaza Legislative Council wants flogging & hand amputation in law

Many Gazans alarmed by harsh draft law from the Gaza Legislative Council that includes Islamic mandatory flogging or amputation for certain punishments.

The penal code drafted by Hamas hard-liners in the Gaza Legislative Council has caused widespread debate not only inside Palestinian society, but also among the political and parliamentary leadership of Hamas, because it included forms of punishment such as flogging and hand amputation, in addition to criminalizing acts not mentioned in the current law.

The presidency of the Palestinian Legislative Council in Gaza has released the draft penal code to civil-society organizations, Palestinian factions and Islamic scholars for discussion prior to its ratification by council members, who all belong to the Hamas movement in Gaza.

New Gaza Laws: If Guilty, Lashes for Drinking & Cutting Off Thieves’ Hands

Hamas is seeking stricter enforcement of Islamic law in Gaza, which includes provisions for cutting off the hands of thieves.

Hamas is lobbying for a stricter enforcement of Islamic law in Gaza – including provisions to cut off the hands of thieves, and execution of individuals who cheat on their spouses. A report in the Al-Hayat daily newspaper said that Hamas expects the new regulations to take effect in the coming months, after introduction of the legislation in the PA parliament.

PLO’s apathy at Hamas’s Talibanization of the Gaza Strip
