Israel’s TV2 Reports: Former foreign minister Avigdor Liberman, agreed to PM Netanyahu’s offer to enter current coalition, and will replace Moshe Ya’alon as Israel’s Defense Minister.

Yisrael Beytenu chief Avigdor Liberman has agreed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s offer to supplant Moshe Ya’alon as Israel’s next defense minister.

Netanyahu and Liberman agreed on Wednesday to form negotiating teams whose mandate will be to finalize the terms of a deal that would expand the Likud-led governing coalition.

News of the agreement between Liberman and Netanyahu was first reported by Ben Caspit, the senior political commentator for The Jerusalem Post’s Hebrew-language corporate sister publication Ma’ariv. Continue Reading »

Key decisions on countering Iran’s nuclear program must be made in Jerusalem, Foreign Minister and Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Liberman declared on Wednesday.

In an interview with The Jerusalem Post Election Arena at the Herzliya Studios, Liberman praised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress on Tuesday, but said “crucial decisions” needed to be taken by this government or the next.

Contrary to Netanyahu’s wishes, Likud seeks to split with Yisrael Beytenu

 

Likud’s central c’tee expected to pass proposals allowing Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount and initiating annexation of Judea & Samaria.

 

The Likud’s central committee will likely vote at next Wednesday’s party convention to split off from Yisrael Beytenu, the convention’s chairman, Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon said Wednesday.

Yisrael Beytenu decided last month to temporarily maintain its partnership with Likud. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu also wants to keep the partnership, and his associates have hinted that he could ignore a decision by the central committee if it decides otherwise.
