Kadima MKs work to depose Shaul Mofaz as party leader

Mere months after replacing Tzipi Livni, Mofaz will either be pressured to quit, or forced into an election for party head.

 

 

Kadima officials are working to depose Shaul Mofaz from his role as party head, Haaretz learned on Monday, citing the outgoing vice prime minister’s weak poll numbers.

The reported plan came as Kadima seemed to edge closer to a full-on split, with former minister Tzachi Hanegbi spearheading efforts to convince at least seven Kadima MKs – the minimum required to create a new faction – to break off and rejoin the coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior urged non-Muslims residing in the kingdom to respect Muslim traditions by not eating openly eating during the month of Ramadan, or else face serious consequences, including deportation, Al-Arabiya news reported.

PA financial crisis brings more support for Hamas

Expenses rise for Ramadan but reserves are down.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) is suffering an intensifying financial crisis that is threatening its stability and strengthening the rival Islamist Hamas. Palestinian security officials warn that if the international community fails to pay its pledges to the PA, it will not be able to pay salaries in the coming months.

350  Americans immigrate to Israel to join IDF as Knesset debates draft-dodging

While the Knesset toils in the draft-for-all debate, some people can’t wait to enlist. This summer sees a record breaking number of 350 young Jews from North America who will immigrate to Israel to join the Israeli army, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Monday.

The first plane batch of these patriotic new recruits has already been nicknamed “The Bakum flight of Nefesh B’Nefesh,” with Bakum referring to the IDF induction center.

Israel rejects a Sunday Times report of anti-terror hit-team at Olympics

According to the newsreport, Israel has increased its security around its Olympic delegation in the wake of deadly Burgas suicide attack .

Bob Costas of NBC Sportsc to Recognize the Slain Israeli Athletes on Air

NBC sportscaster Bob Costas will hold moment of silence for the 11 slain Israeli athletes.

NBC sportscaster Bob Costas plans to call out the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for denying Israel’s request for a moment of silence acknowledging the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the 1972 Games.

Costas intends to make his remarks as the Israeli delegation enters the 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium for the Olympics’ Opening Ceremony, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Munich massacre.

An anti-Islam activist has won a preliminary round in her First Amendment fight to place New York City bus advertisements calling enemies of Israel “savages.”

The bus advertisement submitted by blogger Pamela Geller, initially rejected by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Pamela Geller, executive director of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, had submitted an ad from the group that read, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man.”

Iran claims arrest of networks behind scientist assassinations

Islamic Republic’s intelligence minister says two cells inside & outside country involved in training killers have been shut down.

Iran has arrested some of those responsible for assassinations of its nuclear scientists, state media reported on Sunday, in a continued hunt for those it says are working to sabotage its nuclear program.

Intelligence minister Heydar Moslehi said Iran had shut down two networks inside and outside the country he said were involved in training the killers, Fars News Agency reported.

Sacha Baron Cohen & Palestinian grocer settle slander suit

Ayman Abu Aita sought millions of dollars in compensation after being portrayed as a terrorist in the comedy ‘Bruno,’ reports the Daily Mail.

 

Aman Abu Aita being portrayed in ‘Bruno’ as a terrorist. According to Aita’ court documents, he ‘has never associated with the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade or any terrorist activity,’ said the Daily Mail.

A Palestinian grocer portrayed as a terrorist in the comedy “Bruno” has settled his slander suit against Jewish actor Sacha Baron Cohen and talk show host David Letterman, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

WASHINGTON – Concerns over the fate of Syria‘s unconventional weapons’ stockpiles are growing, as the West is perplexed by conflicting reports regarding their position and security.

Some media reports suggest that Syrian President Bashar Assad has begun moving the stockpiles; others say he may have used them against rebel forces; while others still say that Syria’s cache of chemical weapons – considered the largest in the world – is still under the regime’s tights hold.

Hamas Considering to Declare Gaza a Sovereign Country

Banking on Egyptian support, Hamas may declare Gaza an independent country, a Brittish Arab language newspaper reports.

Hamas is banking on Egyptian support to declare Gaza an independent state and “a liberated part of the ’67 territories,” the London-based Al Hayat Arab language paper reported Sunday.

Hamas has been tossing around the idea for two years, but Egypt has rejected the move.

Another Blast rocks Egypt’s gas pipeline to Israel and Jordan

An explosion on Sunday rocked the Egyptian pipeline built to carry natural gas to Israel and Jordan, the 15th time it has been attacked since the start of the uprising in early 2011 that toppled President Hosni Mubarak.

Al-Qaida is planning to crash U.S. airline during the London Olympics, reports Sunday Times.

In a Sunday Times report, a Norwegian that was trained in Yemen plans to crash a plane on a suicide mission; British authorities say there is a shortage of trained personnel to carry out security screenings.

 

The al-Qaida branch in the Arabian Peninsula is believed to be planning a terror attack during the Olympic Games in London, scheduled to begin at the end of the month. According to a report in today’s Sunday Times, quoting intelligence services, the organization has recruited a Norwegian Muslim convert who was supposed to hijack a U.S. passenger plane and crash it on a suicide mission.

What a Surprise for PA Car Thieves: The Driver was a Soldier

Arab carjacking gang received nasty surprise when what appeared to be a female driver was in fact, an armed reserves soldier.

A reserves soldier reported Saturday night that an Arab gang in Samaria (Shomron) had attacked him, apparently in an attempt to steal his weapon. The incident occurred at the Shavei Shomron junction.

An initial investigation has led security forces to believe that the gang mistook the soldier, who has long hair, for a woman. Carjacking gangs in Judea and Samaria often target female drivers, apparently believing them to be an easier target.

After attacking the thieves realized that the “woman driver” was in fact an armed male soldier, a fact that may have been a factor in his escape. Continue Reading »
