U.S. Navy tests innovative Israeli robotic boats

Ahead of possible strike on Iran, the US reportedly mulls purchasing Rafael’s remote-controlled robotic boats after successful test off Maryland coast

Israeli unmanned robotic boats may be used by the US Military in a potential naval confrontation with Iran, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Sunday.

With the George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun” playing in the background, Arava Power Company President Yosef Abramowitz received the “Person of the Year” award at the 2012 Israel Energy and Business Convention on Sunday – where he simultaneously announced the establishment of a global solar firm with a $10 million fundraising deal.

Abramowitz and his staff were the pioneers behind Israel’s first medium-sized solar field, the 4.95-megawatt Ketura Sun launched at Kibbutz Ketura in June 2011.

FDA approves Israel’s Teva leukemia drug

Soon to be available for prescribing, Synribo has gained FDA approval for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia in adults.

Izhar Gafni, 50, is an expert in designing automated mass-production lines. He is an amateur cycling enthusiast who for years toyed with an idea of making a bicycle from cardboard.

Positive interim results for psoriasis treatment reports Can-Fite

Can-Fite said that interim analysis of safety and efficacy data from the first 103 patients who completed 24 weeks of treatment in the trial found positive clinical effects of CF101 compared with the placebo in a variety of standard psoriasis assessment parameters, with the responses accumulating steadily over the treatment period.

American David Winel & Moroccan Serge Haroche, of Moroccan origin, wins prize for groundbreaking advances in quantum systems.

Serge Haroche, a French-Jewish physicist, has won the Nobel Prize in Physics jointly with David Wineland from the United States.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2012 went to the scientists “for groundbreaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems,” the website of the Nobel Prize said.

According to the BBC, the pair developed solutions to pick, manipulate and measure photons and ions individually, allowing an insight into a microscopic world that was once just the province of scientific theory. Continue Reading »

A Palestinian car ran over four soldiers today in the area of Gush Etzion in Judea, outside a town barely ten minutes south of Jerusalem.

Four soldiers were standing on the side of the road in the community of Neve Daniel  in Gush Etzion when a Palestinian Arab owned vehicle hit the group and proceeded to run off.

The injured soldiers were immediately taken to Shaarei Tsedek Hospital in Jersalem, where it was reported that three sustained minor injuries, while one was left with more serious injuries. Continue Reading »

Members of Migvan urban kibbutz, located in the southern Israeli city of Sderot, have decided to invest in a unique crop – solar energy.

The commune’s houses are covered with solar panels, making them the location of Israel‘s first urban solar field, which produces electricity for its residents.

Migvan was formed in 1987 and is currently home to 50 people.

The urban kibbutz adopted environmentally friendly principles from its inception, and has a large recycling center and a compost recycling facility, as well. Continue Reading »
