Jordanian terrorist shot dead Saturday after knife-attack on Policemen in Jerusalem’s Old City

 

Israel policeman who was stabbed, responded, shot & killed 57 yr-old Jordanian terrorist near the Lions’ Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City, before being taken to Shaare Tzedek hospital in moderate condition. Another policeman was lightly injured and treated on site.

A 37-year-old police officer was moderately injured by a terrorist stabbing in the area of the Lions’ Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. The police said that the terrorist was shot and later pronounced dead. The terrorist, Muhammad Abdullah Salim al-Qassagi, a 57-year-old Jordanian citizen, arrived in Israel a week ago via the Jordan River crossing in Beit Shean.

MDA reported that at 01:21pm, a man was stabbed near the Lions’ Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Upon reaching the scene, the paramedics found a 37-year-old police officer with stab wounds in his upper body. He was taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital in the city and was fully conscious. The police reported that the terrorist was neutralized at the scene, and was later pronounced dead.

According to an initial investigation, the terrorist was walking down Shalshelet Street in the Old City and noticed a policeman walking towards him. The terrorist rapidly approached him, pulled out two knives he had in his possession, charged him and stabbed him. The police reported that the officer responded with determination and professionalism while he was wounded, and managed to neutralize the assailant.

In recent weeks, several attacks in the Jerusalem area have been thwarted. Last Sunday, a female terrorist tried to carry out a stabbing attack near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem. Police shot the terrorist dead after she approached them while brandishing a knife and shouting, ‘Allahu akbar’. According to the forces, she was carrying a goodbye note to her family signed ‘martyr’. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

On April 25, a stabbing attack in Samaria was thwarted by soldiers from the 51st Battalion of the Golani Brigade near the Shomron Regional Brigade. A 21-year-old Palestinian terrorist who was holding a knife ran towards the force and was shot by soldiers. The terrorist was taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, and none of the soldiers was injured.
