A scuffle between police forces and Coptic priests at a major Christian holy site in Jerusalem on Wednesday drew condemnation from Egypt and churches in the Holy Land.

Police and Coptic priests wrangled outside a contested chapel at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, where many Christians believe Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected.

Jerusalem Court: Greek Orthodox Church real estate sale to Jews wasn’t result of fraud

Greek Orthodox Church vows to appeal Jerusalem court decision upholding the sale of church property in the Old City to Jews, decrying the judgement as ‘politically motivated.’

The leader of the Greek Orthodox Church in Israel said that the church will appeal a decision of the Jerusalem District Court approving the sale of church-owned land in the Old City of Jerusalem to Jews.

The church has opposed the deal, claiming that it was made illegally by the deposed previous leader of the church.

Speaking at a news conference in Amman, Jordan, on Saturday, Patriarch Theophilos III said that the court’s ruling was “politically motivated,” and emphasized that the church will do “everything within its power so that this unjust ruling will be overturned.” Continue Reading »

US Ambassador David Friedman’s first stop on the job in Israel was the Western Wall, where a simple prayer at the Biblical site, turned into a lager diplomatic statement.

The police said that the terrorist was shot and later pronounced dead. An Arab terrorist stabbed and moderately wounded two Border Police officers in Jerusalem’s Old City early Monday morning.

The attack occurred at the Lion’s Gate on the city’s eastern side facing the Mount of Olives.

The 25-year-old terrorist approached the police guard station, entered and began wildly stabbing.

An Israel Border Police officer is in critical condition after being stabbed Sunday at Damascus Gate, outside the Old City in Jerusalem, Israel Police reported Sunday.

The terrorist, an 18-year-old resident of the West Bank, was shot at the scene and is in critical condition.

Police used stun grenades to disperse hundreds of Palestinians on Wednesday who were protesting against an Israeli light festival at the Old City of Jerusalem.

Police said four men were arrested. A few were pushed to the ground during the scuffles but no serious injuries were reported.
