EU Favors Labelling of ‘Settlement Products’

Report: EU foreign ministers support efforts to label products from Judea, Samaria & ‘East-Jerusalem’.

EU foreign ministers, among them Britain’s William Hague and Laurent Fabius of France, have said they will back EU efforts to label products from Israeli communities in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem, according to a letter obtained by AFP on Friday.

“We warmly welcome your commitment to work with fellow commissioners to prepare EU-wide guidelines on the labelling of settlement produce,” said the letter by 13 ministers, addressed to EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and dated April 12.

“This is an important step to ensure correct and coherent application of EU consumer protection and labelling legislation, which is in fulfillment of our previous commitments and is fully consistent with long-standing EU policy in relation to Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” the letter said, according to AFP. Israeli peppers put Lebanese Army on High Alert

A supermarket in the Lebanese city of Sidon had a ‘hot potato’ on its hands Tuesday when a shopper discovered Israeli bell peppers in the produce aisle, Lebanese media reported.

The shopper called the police, who immediately contacted the army. When members of Lebanese military intelligence arrived at the Spinney’s supermarket, one of Lebanon’s largest chains, their search bore fruit.

US groups protest against Israel cultural boycott

Israeli actress and producer Noa Tishby has issued an online petition together with the Act for Israel and Israeli Leadership Council (ILC) organizations, calling for an end to the cultural boycott on Israel.

The petition follows recent incidents which included a call to boycott Israel’s Cameri Theater and the cancelation of Stevie Wonder’s performance at the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces annual gala in Los Angeles. Continue Reading »

EU has no intention of boycotting settlement products

EU Official says bloc “continues to oppose boycotts, including boycotts of settlement products” besides, there has to be action at the level of the UN Security Council before the EU places boycotts on countries.

Boycotting products from the settlements is not a sanction the EU is considering to demonstrate its displeasure with Israel’s recent decision to construct 3,000 new units in the settlement and push forward planning in E1, the EU’s delegation in Tel Aviv clarified Thursday.

A spokesman at the EU delegation was responding to an article in Ma’ariv that said EU ministers scheduled to meet Monday to discuss Israel’s recently announced settlement plans were considering “accelerating, in a full and effective measure, the implementation of legislation on labeling and boycotting settlement products.”

Samaria Breaks European Boycott and Forms Wine Alliance with Italy

Shomron Regional Council ignores European boycott by creating an alliance between Italian winemakers & Shomron winemakers.

With the ongoing boycotts around the world of products made in Judea and Samaria (Yehuda and Shomron), the Shomron Regional Council’s public diplomacy delegation scored a victory this recentky when it launched an alliance between Shomron winemakers and the Italian Winemakers Association.

The delegation to Italy was made up of winemakers who have been recognized for their outstanding achievements and whose wines have received international awards.

The alliance was formed when a delegation of winemakers from the Shomron, along with the head of the Shomron Regional Council Gershon Mesika, held a weekend visit to northern Italy, as guests of the local association of winegrowers and winemakers. Continue Reading »
