In a UN Security Council statement, the council urges a ceasefire between Israel & Hamas

 

British Foreign Secretary William Hague also called on both parties for a cease fire, but reiterated that Israel has the right to exercise self-defense.

The UN Security Council on Saturday called for a cease-fire between Palestinians and Israelis.

“The Security Council members called for de-escalation of the situation, restoration of calm, and reinstitution of the November 2012 ceasefire,” the Security Council said in a statement.

Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Saturday also called for a cease-fire but added that “Israel has the right to defend itself” against rockets from Gaza. Continue Reading »

EU Favors Labelling of ‘Settlement Products’

Report: EU foreign ministers support efforts to label products from Judea, Samaria & ‘East-Jerusalem’.

EU foreign ministers, among them Britain’s William Hague and Laurent Fabius of France, have said they will back EU efforts to label products from Israeli communities in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem, according to a letter obtained by AFP on Friday.

“We warmly welcome your commitment to work with fellow commissioners to prepare EU-wide guidelines on the labelling of settlement produce,” said the letter by 13 ministers, addressed to EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and dated April 12.

“This is an important step to ensure correct and coherent application of EU consumer protection and labelling legislation, which is in fulfillment of our previous commitments and is fully consistent with long-standing EU policy in relation to Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” the letter said, according to AFP. UK’s Foreign Secretary Hague, ‘not right to criticize Israel over Syria strike’

British foreign secretary says real issue is a 2 year Syrian civil war, but does criticize int’l community and U.N. for its failure to address the crisis.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague commented on reports of an Israeli airstrike in Syria and stressed he will not condemn Jerusalem over the matter, the BBC reported Thursday.

William Hague“I’m not going to give any condemnation of Israel or rush into any criticism,” he said in an interview. “There may be many things about it that we don’t know, or the Arab League or Russia don’t know.”

The British secretary said that the real issue is Syria’s civil war which has been raging in the country for the past two years killing a reported 60,000 people. Continue Reading »
