U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Israel on Tuesday night for meetings with officials, in an attempt to achieve a ceasefire in the fighting between Israel and Gaza.

Clinton and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made statements to the press shortly before they met one on one.

Netanyahu welcomed Clinton to Jerusalem and noted that Israel was fighting against terrorists who fire barrages of rockets against innocent civilians.

Speaking at Ynet’s studio, Lieberman addressed the possibility of a ceasefire, which Hamas said may go into effect at midnight. He said Israel would be pleased if a ceasefire is reached, but would continue to act if not.

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has left Israel en route to Cairo where he will hold meetings with the Egyptian mediators following meetings he held with Israeli officials.

It is estimated that Israel asked Westerwelle to intervene in order to introduce amendments to the ceasefire agreement draft.

A number of rockets targeted the South Sunday morning after a several-hour reprieve from rocket fire overnight Saturday as the IDF targeted dozens of sites in the Gaza Strip. One rocket struck a building in Ashkelon Sunday morning, lightly injuring one person and causing serious damage to the building.
