Human Rights Watch released a report Wednesday which revealed that Hamas’ security forces in Gaza are committing severe abuses, including torture of detainees, arrests without warrants, forced confessions, unfair trials and mock executions.

Gazans protest Egypt’s elimination of Hamas’ smuggling tunnels

Some of the protests are now being organized by Hamas, who so far had refrained from criticizing Morsi’s gov’t.

For the first time since the election of President Mohamed Morsi, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have staged demonstrations against the demolition of tunnels along the border with Egypt.

Some of the protests were organized by Hamas, whose leaders had thus far refrained from criticizing Morsi and the new Egyptian government.

The protests are seen as the first sign of tensions between Hamas and the Egyptians since the ouster of president Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.

Palestinians against FC Barcelona: The Catalan football club has decided to invite former Israeli captive Gilad Shalit to be the guest of honor at its Super Clasico match against Real Madrid on October 7 and present him with a club medal.

Protesters in the Bureij refugee camp, where the boy’s family lives, called for Hamas to be toppled and chanted “The people want to take down the regime” late on Tuesday night, echoing slogans adopted in Arab revolutions in neighboring countries. Adndan Damiri, spokesman for the PA security forces, also accused Hamas of working to overthrow the PA regime in the West Bank.

Hamas government in Gaza Strip has ordered its security forces to crackdown on the Salafi groups operating in the Strip, the London-based Arab newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported Saturday.

The order reportedly followed the recent increase in rocket fire on Israel, which Hamas fears may lead to a wide-scale Israeli operation in the area.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday that he would not allow Iran to divide the Palestinians.

Abbas’s comments came after reports that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had invited Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh to attend the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran, beginning on Sunday. Hamas reports Egypt reopens Rafah crossing into Gaza

Hamas spokesman: Egypt informed Gaza gov’t that their border crossing, which has been closed for much of the past month, will be opened permanently.

Egypt has reopened the Rafah border crossing with Gaza on Saturday.

The crossing is a lifeline for Gazans, which had been closed for much of the month since an August 5 attack on Egyptian guards, Palestinian and Egyptian security sources said.

The move signals a step forward in relations between Egypt’s new government led by President Mohammed Morsi and Gaza’s Islamist rulers Hamas, which had deteriorated since the attack in which gunmen killed 16 Egyptian soldiers on the Israeli border.

Hamas has infiltrated into the senior ranks of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abba’s own security forces, bearing out Israel’s worst fears that the PA might turns it guns on Israelis, according to the DebkaFile website.

Debka, staffed by former journalists and former intelligence personnel, said that the Palestinian Authority arrested this past Sunday two Hamas agents of the terrorist’ organization’s military branch who infiltrated into the elite hand-picked security force that guards Abbas.

PA Electric Company: Theft is leading Us to Bankruptcy

The Palestinian Authority Electric Company intimidated by  “refugee camp” residents.

 

 

The Palestinian Authority Electric Company has complained that theft is driving it bankrupt. The company owes the Israel Electric Company 423 million shekels, largely due to 550 million shekels of unpaid bills from its customers.

Electric Company officials called a press conference urging PA leaders to stop the theft, and require those living in “refugee camp” neighborhoods to pay their bills. Workers are afraid to go into the notoriously violent “camp” neighborhoods to collect, they said.

Hamas is prepared to stop tunnel smuggling activity between Sinai and the Gaza Strip if the Egyptians order the reopening of the Rafah border crossing, which has been closed since the Sinai terror attack last week, Hamas senior official Salah al-Bardawil said on Sunday.

Egypt completely closed the border crossing to the passage of people and goods after terrorists, some of whom were suspected of coming from the Gaza Strip, attacked an army outpost in Sinai on August 5, killing 16 Egyptian soldiers.

Buoyed by growing tensions between Hamas and Egypt in wake of last week’s terror attack in Sinai, the Palestinian Authority Saturday called on the Egyptians to tighten the blockade on the Gaza Strip by destroying all underground tunnels along their shared border.

The PA said that the tunnels do not contribute to the economy in the Gaza Strip and are being used only by a small number of people for personal gain.
