Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas joined world leaders on Wednesday in congratulating Barack Obama for being elected for a second term in the White House, and expressed hope the US president would help instate the two-state solution.

Abbas’ chief negotiator, Saeb Erekat, said that “Obama must take action to dry out the swamp that is the Israeli occupation, because this is the key to democracy.”

In a statement, Erekat stated that the PA has decided to submit its bid for UN recognition this month, “and we hope that Obama stands by the Palestinians.” Continue Reading »

NEW YORK – A federal judge on Tuesday threw out a lawsuit brought by a US man wounded in the Middle East who sought to hold Arab Bank liable for providing material support to the Palestinian group Hamas.

US District Judge Jack Weinstein in Brooklyn, New York, held that Mati Gill could not prove Arab Bank was responsible for injuries he sustained in 2008 from gunshots fired from Gaza into Israel.

Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert leveled harsh criticism at his successor Benjamin Netanyahu Sunday, saying that he had taken steps to weaken the Palestinian Authority and bolster Hamas at the PA’s expense.

The statement was given following Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ controversial interview with Channel 2 News last week.

KHARTOUM – Sudan will not stop supporting Palestinian group Hamas despite Israeli “aggression,” a senior Sudanese official said on Sunday, less than two weeks after Khartoum accused Israel of bombing an arms plant in the Sudanese capital.

Israel accuses Sudan of channeling weapons from Iran to Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, via Egypt’s Sinai desert. Sudan denies the charge but often expresses sympathy for Hamas.

A blast at Khartoum’s Yarmouk arms factory last month drew new attention to the accusations after Sudan said an Israeli air strike was behind the explosion.

Hamas slammed Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Friday, in response to comments he made in an interview he gave to Israel’s Channel 2 News.

In the interview, which aired on the network’s Friday evening news magazine, Abbas hinted he would be willing to give up on the so-called “right of return” and said that he considers Palestine as “a state within the pre-1967 borders which exists alongside Israel.”

The comments irked Hamas’ prime minister in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, who issued an angry statement and said that Abbas’ remarks represent only his personal opinion and not the opinions of the “Palestinian people.” Continue Reading »

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday described as “very weird,” the diplomats sent by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyhu to help negotiate a re-normaliztion of relations between the two countries, Turkish daily Today’s Zaman reported Friday. Ties between Turkey and Israel were strained following the 2010 Mavi Marmara incident, in which IDF commandos killed nine Turkish citizens attempting to break the blockade on Gaza.

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), in cooperation with the Israel Police, recently arrested a Gaza metal merchant involved in transferring millions of dollars into the Gaza Strip and to Hamas. In addition, the man reportedly sold metal components to the Hamas military wing, used to build tunnels, military posts and bunkers.

PA Calls For Int’l Protection For Estelle

PA Calls for int’l protection for Finnish flagged boat, Estelle, sailing to Gaza.

On Sunday, the Palestinian Authority (PA) called for international forces to protect a boat carrying pro-PA activists trying to break Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza.

Hamas has urged the world to respond to the Finish-flagged boat, Estelle, by pressuring Israel to end its blockade on Gaza, Xinhua has reported.

PA spokesperson Nour Odea said “The international community must provide protection for the flotilla because it is a legitimate peaceful activity directed against the Israeli siege…”

The boat set sail from Naples, Italy, on October 7, carrying more than a dozen activists bearing “humanitarian aid”, most of them from Western countries. Continue Reading »

Hamas Airs Movie Promo on Shalit Kidnapping

Hamas releases promo for new movie which depicts Gilad Shalit kidnapping.

Hamas’ Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades has released a promo for a new movie in which actors reenact the attack in 2006 in which then-IDF soldier Gilad Shalit was kidnapped.

The promo for the movie, which will air later this week, comes as the movement marks one year since Shalit was released in exchange for 1,027 terrorists held in Israeli prisons, including several convicted of mass murder.

IDF response to Hamas rocket fire & hits Gaza targets

The IDF retaliated to a barrage of rockets on southern Israel by Palestinian terrorists.

Palestinians claim 16 civilians injured by IDF strikes since Sunday.

 

The Israel Defense Forces struck a number of sites in the Gaza Strip on Monday, including one located in a mosque, in response to continued rocket and mortar fire by Hamas and Islamic Jihad toward southern Israel throughout the morning.
