The commander of the Israel Defense Forces’ secretive and elite Sayeret Matkal (General Staff Reconnaissance Unit) has posted a message asking all former members of the unit to stop sharing classified information with the press. Lt. Col. G. asked the former commandos to “return to a policy of discretion regarding the unit’s confidential operations and keep the unit away from the media.”

The IDF has been stepping up its fight against Hamas in Judea and Samaria (Shomron) in wake of the recent open battle with Hamas in Gaza. Earlier this week troops went to arrest a terror suspect in Hevron and ended up finding a weapons warehouse in a private home.

Stevie Wonder pulls out of Friends of the IDF fundraiser

Stevie Wonder, who performed at a 1998 gala honoring Israel’s 50th anniversary, will not be participating at the fundraiser, says his representative.  The performance would be incongruent with his status as a UN ‘Messenger of Peace.’

Stevie Wonder is set to pull out of a performance at a fundraiser for the Israel Defense Forces, a source told JTA.

Wonder’s representatives will claim that he did not know the nature of the group, the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, and that he believes such a performance would be incongruent with his status as a UN “Messenger of Peace,” according to a source who has read email exchanges between Wonder’s representatives and organizers of the event. IDF soldiers on Wednesday shot at Palestinians rioting near the Israel-Gaza border fence, injuring seven, according to Palestinian medical officials cited by Ma’an news agency.

Groups of Palestinians gathered on the Gaza side of the fence on Wednesday afternoon and spent several hours attempting to damage the barrier, the IDF said.

The rioting occurred on the border with both central and southern Gaza.

Soldiers killed a suspected Gaza terrorist early Monday after he broke into a Jewish home and stabbed a girl before fleeing.

The IDF discovered a hole in the nearby Gaza security fence, and footprints from the area matched the shoes of the intruder, who had escaped to the Moshav Sde Avraham’s greenhouses after he tried to kill the girl.

The IDF is gearing for a critical test of the Magic Wand system, which has been designed to intercepted short-to-medium range missiles in the backdrop of the Iron Dome‘s success during Operation Pillar of Defense, The Boston Globe reported Saturday. Israel has yet to confirm or deny the report.

IDF Jeep Hit AGAIN by Rebel Gunfire from Syria

Rebel gunfire from Syria hits IDF for third jeep, Israel complains to UN.

An IDF jeep patrolling the northern border was hit by gunfire from Syria on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the Ramat Golan region.

The jeep was damaged, but soldiers were not hurt. The soldiers did not return fire despite new rules of engagement in the area.

IDF commanders believe the shots were not aimed at Israel, but rather, were stray shots from fighting in Syria. Fighting has approached the border in recent weeks. The Israeli army on Monday took over programming at a Gaza-based Hamas television station “to broadcast warnings” on the sixth day of Operation Pillar of Defense.

Al-Aqsa television, the official station of Gaza’s Hamas regime, said in a statement the Israeli army “is interfering with Al-Aqsa TV,” with the picture going on and off for several hours and sometimes appearing scrambled, according to AFP.
