Hamas has recently developed dozens of high-powered short-range rockets capable of carrying heavy explosive loads, intended to be used against Israeli communities in the vicinity of the Gaza border in a future conflict with Israel.

The rockets, first reported by Israel’s Army Radio on Tuesday, weigh up to hundreds of kilograms each and have a relatively short range of up to ten kilometers, pointing to Hamas’ intention to inflict maximum damage on Israeli communities situated close to the border with the Gaza Strip. Arab Media: Jordan Refused Hamas Leader Khaled Mashaal’s Request to Visit Kingdom

 

Although allowed to enter Jordan in 2012, King Abdullah expelled the Hamas leadership from Jordan in 1999, and according to Emirati news site 24, the King has again declared Khaled Mashaal “unwelcome” in Jordan.

Jordanian authorities denied a request by Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal to visit the kingdom, the Emirati news site 24 reported on Tuesday.

Mashaal was told by the authorities that he is “unwelcome” in Jordan, according to sources in Amman.

Saudi Report: Hamas chief agreed to 2-state solution

Saudi newspaper reported that King Abdullah II set to inform President Obama of Hamas’ willingness to accept 2-state solution

Hamas Politburo chief Khaled Mashaal has asked Jordan’s King Abdullah II to inform US President Barack Obama that Hamas accepts the principle of a two-state solution, Saudi Arabia’s al-Sharq newspaper reported.

According to the report, which quoted Jordanian sources, Mashaal expressed willingness to stand behind a solution that will see a Palestinian state being established on the 1967 borders during a meeting with the king on Monday.

Hamas’ Mashaal to challenge Abbas for PLO presidency

Palestinian sources as saying Qatar & Jordan are pushing for Mashaal to chair PLO, according to ‘Al-Quds Al-Arabi’.

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal is seeking to take over the presidency of the PLO, currently chaired by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the London-based daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported on Monday.

According to the report, Mashaal’s desire to chair the PLO is behind his decision not to stand for reelection to his position as chairman of Hamas’s Political Bureau.

Al-Quds Al-Arabi quoted Palestinian sources as saying several Arab states, led by Jordan and Qatar, are pushing for Mashaal to chair the PLO as a way of getting Hamas to sign the Oslo Accords and recognize Israel.

The Islamist group Hamas said on Monday it was backing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s attempt to win more clout for Palestinians at the United Nations, the latest sign of a rapprochement between the political rivals.

The Palestinians are registered as an observer entity at the UN and Abbas wants to see them upgraded to a “non-member state” in a UN General Assembly vote on November 29, giving him access to other international organizations.

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal declared a position on Palestinian statehood that is nearly identical to that of his Fatah rival, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, in an interview with CNN aired Wednesday.

“I accept a Palestinian state according [to] the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as the capital, with the right to return,” the Hamas leader told Christine Amanpour in Cairo.

Pushed about his party’s refusal to recognize Israel, Mashaal said such a declaration could only be made once a Palestinian state has been created.

Mashaal made the statement against the backdrop of Arab media reports claiming an agreement between the sides was imminent.

Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Kandil, who spent three hours in Gaza last Friday, was quoted in the media as saying, “A cease-fire agreement will be achieved shortly.”
