An Egyptian security official says border guards have shot dead an African migrant near the border with Israel.

The official said the 25-year-old Eritrean refused to surrender when police fired warning shots in the air and continued running toward the Israeli border near Rafah in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Saturday. Continue Reading »

IDF PICTURES: Gaza Rocket Destroys House in Netivot

Last night, a house was destroyed in Netivot (a city of 26,500 residents) after a rocket hit its living room. The following pictures show the extent of damage to the house.

 

Since the beginning of 2012, more than 455 rockets have hit Israel. Over the past 9 days of September more than 10 rockets hit southern Israel, triggering alarms in the nearby communities.

Iron Dome Battery Stationed to Protect Tel Aviv

The anti-missile system has been deployed to protect central Israel for the first time.

For the first time since the anti-missile system became operational, an Iron Dome battery has been deployed in central Israel, where it protects Tel Aviv and its environs.

IDF Radio reported Wednesday that while the placement of the battery in its current location is for “training and tweaking” purposes, in case of a real threat it will be able to protect Tel Aviv and large swathes of the Dan Bloc area.

Interior Minister: Migrants on Egyptian side of the border will not be allowed to enter Israel

Activists stopped at border in attempts to bring food to about 20 Eritrean migrants  stuck in Egypt at Israel’s border.

In response to a report of some 20 Eritrean migrants trapped between the Israel-Egypt border, Interior Minsiter Eli Yishai declared, “We will not bring the Eritreans into Israeli territory.”

“It is hardest for me, of anyone, to see these pictures, and return families to their homelands. It is hard for me to see these pictures, but I am the one who has to make the difficult decision, and if I have to choose between the good of the state, its civilians, and its security, [and the good of the families] I will choose that there be a fence, that they won’t enter, and instead return to their country,” continued Yishai. IAF Strikes Back at Terror Targets in Gaza

IAF aircraft hit 2 centers of terrorist activity in Northern Gaza in response to a rocket that hit a home in Sderot yesterday.

IAF aircraft struck two centers of terrorist activity in northern Gaza on Friday night, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit reported.

The statement said that direct hits were identified and all aircraft returned safely to their bases.

The attack came in response to high trajectory fire into Israeli territory, said the statement.

“The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers and will continue to operate against anyone who uses terror against Israel,” said the statement, adding that the “Hamas terrorist organization” is responsible for any terror activities which are launched from Gaza. IDF levels Palestinian structures in West Bank communities

According to UN data, Israel razed 120 houses of the 400 Palestinian structures in the West Bank’s Area C this year

 

Israel yesterday destroyed five cisterns and several tents, sheepfolds and storage sites in four Palestinian communities in the West Bank. During the process, the contents of several feed sacks were spilled and damaged.

Altogether, according to UN data, Israel razed some 400 Palestinian structures in the West Bank’s Area C between the start of the year and mid-August, including 120 houses; more than 600 Palestinians were hurt by these demolitions. Continue Reading »

Israel is also one of the world’s biggest arms buyers, according to a report, Conventional Arms Transfers to Developing Nations, 2004-2011, by the Congressional Research Service (CRS) at the Library of Congress. Rachel Corrie’s family civil suit dismissed by Haifa District Court

Judge Oded Gershon rules that Rachel Corrie, a pro-Palestinian activist ‘consciously put herself in harm’s way’ by ignoring warning after warning

The Haifa District Court rejected on Tuesday accusations that Israel was at fault over the death of American activist Rachel Corrie, who was crushed by an army bulldozer during a 2003 pro-Palestinian demonstration in Gaza.

Corrie’s family had accused Israel of intentionally and unlawfully killing their 23-year-old daughter, launching a civil case in Haifa after a military investigation had cleared the army of wrong-doing.

The Israel Defense Forces have developed a first-of-its-kind grenade that doesn’t explode when struck by a bullet.

The bullet-proof grenade was developed following a March 2010 incident on the Gaza Strip border in which two IDF soldiers were killed when a bullet hit a grenade lodged in the vest of one of the soldiers, causing it to detonate.

Corrie Family Seeking Justice in Upcoming Court Ruling

Rachel Corrie’s parents & sister hope the court will find the IDF responsible for her accidental 2003 death in Gaza.

Craig, Cindy and Sarah Corrie (Simpson) said on Sunday they hope that after nearly 10 years, the Haifa District Court will find the IDF responsible in the death of their daughter Rachel, 23, in Rafah, the southern Gaza Strip. A verdict is expected on Tuesday.

She was killed in disputed circumstances on March 16, 2003, while protesting an IDF home demolition.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Jerusalem Post, Cindy described herself as “naive” when the trial started two years ago about what it would look like and its ability to reveal more about what led to her daughter’s death and how the investigation was conducted.

The Environmental Protection Ministry warned recently that IDF soldiers are required to deal with asbestos without the appropriate protective gear.

Asbestos is an extremely hazardous material. Its carcinogenic properties have resulted in a ban on its use in many nations worldwide, including Israel.

3 American-born IDF veterans have returned to the US after their IDF service. On campus each has been involved in Israel advocacy efforts.

According to Barnea and Shiffer, “Not a single state official or military official or even the president – supports an Israeli attack in Iran.”
