IDF guarding African migrants hiding in underground viaduct on Israel-Egypt border

Migrant Workers’ Hotline writes to IDF legal adviser, allow asylum-seekers into Israel.

A group of African migrants that attempted to enter Israel through Sinai is currently located in a viaduct in Israeli territory, close to the Israel-Egypt border, and under guard of Israel Defense Forces soldiers.

The group descended into the viaduct three days ago, while attempting to cross the border through the water passageway, which is open on the Egyptian side of the border. The group was stopped by IDF forces on the Israeli side of the border near the Carmit post. Soldiers from the post, responsible for patrolling the border, have given the migrants food and water. The IDF structure of command in the Golan changed this week, with Colonel Oren Cohen replacing Colonel Mounir Amar as head of the Hermon Brigade.

“In these days when a bloody civil war is happening just meters from here, we are changing the command of the Hermon Brigade, which is responsible for defending the eyes of the country,” said Brigadier-General Tamir Hyman, speaking at a ceremony in which Cohen took command.

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), IDF, and Judea and Samaria district police arrested two men who confessed to taking part in the brutal October 2000 lynch of two IDF soldiers, security forces announced Thursday.

The arrests came after the Shin Bet and police uncovered an extensive Hamas terror structure in Ramallah and the Binyamin region, and arrested other suspects along with the two men.

Scandinavian activist groups are launching an aid ship destined for Gaza on Tuesday, hoping to challenge the Israeli blockade and draw international attention to the conflict in a move reminiscent of the 2010 “Freedom Flotilla”, organizers said.

IDF generals revealed Monday that soldiers and planes engaged Sunday night’s terrorists in several clashes before wiping them out in 15 minutes. On Monday, the IDF released a video recording of the elimination of the APC carrying the terrorists.

Barak: Terrorist Attack on Israel-Sinai border is ‘wake-up call’ for Egypt’s gov’t

An Israel Air Force craft targeted a motorcycle traveling in the Gaza city of Rafah on Sunday, killing one militant and wounding another.

According to initial reports, the attack was a surgical strike against a member of the Popular Resistance Committees militant organization.

IDF Stops Syrian Infiltration on Northern Border

A Syrian man attempted to infiltrate northern Israel on Saturday. The man disguised himself as a shepherd in order to get close to the border fence, then attempted to cut through the fence.

Soldiers spotted the man and fired warning shots. When the man did not respond, they fired at his legs.

The would-be infiltrator was hit. He was taken for medical care in Syria, and his condition is not clear.

IDF commanders believe the man planned to either carry out a terrorist attack or gather information in preparation for an attack. Continue Reading »

An IDF inquiry suggests that the tank shield detected a missile launch during operational activity near the border fence. No injuries were reported.

The IDF considers the firing of the missile a very unusual event. Windbreaker has rarely been called into action since becoming operational two years ago. In March 2011, it successfully intercepted an RPG rocket fired at a tank. Continue Reading »

Israeli soldiers were caught in apparent crossfire between Egyptian soldiers and drug smugglers Wednesday morning. No Israeli injuries were reported.

Egyptian soldiers spotted and shot at drug smugglers trying to cross into Israel, and several bullets hit an Israeli bus carrying soldiers.

Assuming they were under a terrorist attack, the Israeli soldiers fired back and wounded at least one Egyptian soldier. The IDF still is investigating to determine whether the shots fired at the bus were accidental or not. Continue Reading »

No Injuries after IDF Force Attacked by Gaza Mortars

Palestinian Authority Arab terrorists fired five mortar shells on Monday afternoon at an IDF force that was operating near the Kissufim crossing in central Gaza.

The IDF Spokesman said that there were no physical injuries or damage. The soldiers fired shots towards suspicious areas after the attack.

The terrorists in Hamas-controlled Gaza have upped their attacks in recent days. An Israeli woman suffered light injuries while running for shelter during a Sabbath rocket attack on the city of Sderot. Continue Reading »

Israel strengthens its security on Syria border

IDF deploys troops and adds barbed wire to border fence with Syria in order to bar refugees & terrorists from entering Israel.

Israel bolstered security along its border with Syria on Thursday as fighting between Syrian rebels and President Bashar Assad‘s regime intensified, Israeli security sources told AFP.

“The IDF is reinforcing the fence between Israel and Syria by adding more barbed wire,” one Israeli official said, indicating that it was motivated by “fears that refugees from the Syrian side could cross it.”
