Netanyahu: Non-Aligned Movement is a disgrace to humanity

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Wednesday evening strongly condemned the Non-Aligned Movement summit taking place in Tehran, calling it a disgrace.

“Today, over 120 countries are meeting in Tehran, while the regime there denies the Holocaust, and works to destroy the Zionist state … this is a disgrace to humanity,” the prime minister said.

Netanyahu made his comments during a meeting with German politician David McAllister.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday that he would not allow Iran to divide the Palestinians.

Abbas’s comments came after reports that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had invited Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh to attend the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran, beginning on Sunday. Egyptian Report: Egypt refuses a US request to inspect Iranian arms shipment to Syria

Suez Canal Authority chairman tells Al-Ahram newspaper Egyptian navy refused to inspect Iranian ship’s cargo; Egypt’s President Morsi will attend Tehran summit later this month.

 

Egypt has recently turned down a U.S. request to stop an Iranian ship carrying weapons to Syria, according to a report in Egypt’s Al-Ahram newspaper.

According to the report, quoted in Israel Radio on Sunday, Lieutenant General Mohab Mamish, Suez Canal Authority chairman, said Egypt’s navy refused to stop the ship and inspect its cargo as it was passing through the canal. Continue Reading »

After Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi embraced Iranian President Muhammad Ahmadinejad at the summit of the Organization of Islamic States Saudi Arabia, sources in the office of the Egyptian presidency announced that Morsi was planning to visit Tehran for the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) at the end of August. The NAM grouping of mostly Third World countries was first established in 1961 as a neutral alternative to the West and the Soviet bloc.

Iran has invited Hamas prime minister in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh to attend a summit of 120 developing nations, officials said on Friday, a move that could antagonize Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and anger Western powers who consider Hamas a terrorist group.

Iran rejects allegation by Afghanistan in latest Int’l terrorists bombings

Iran Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei: Muslim world must unite to free Palestine

In Tehran, IRNA news agency cites Iran Supreme Leader as urging Muslim world to resist control by ‘hegemonic powers.’

The main issues the Muslim world is faced with are the fate of Jerusalem and of “oppressed Palestine,” Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Sunday, adding that Muslim nations must avoid inner conflict and stand united against Israel and the control of “hegemonic powers.”

The Iranian Quake Death Toll is Still Rising

Dozens more have died since the two earthquakes struck Iran’s East Azerbaijan province on Saturday.

Dozens more people have died since twin earthquakes struck the towns of Ahar, Haris and Varzaqan in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province on Saturday.

From an initial death toll of 250, the numbers have now reached as high as 306, including 219 women and children.

More than 3,000 people were injured in the 6.3 and 6.4-magnitude temblors that struck northwestern Iran, according to Health Minister Marzieh Vahid Dastjierdi.

Deadly earthquake shakes Iran

Iranian media outlets say at least 180  dead in 6.4 magnitude earthquake in northwest Iran

Two strong earthquakes struck northwest Iran on Saturday, killing at least 180 people and injuring 1,300, Iranian media said.

The Iranian Students’ News Agency quoted the head of the government’s emergency centre, Gholamreza Masoumi, as announcing the casualty figures.

A local official in the area told ISNA that six villages had been completely destroyed and 60 villages had been 50 to 70% destroyed.

The US Geological Survey measured the first quake at 6.4 magnitude and said it struck 60 km (37 miles) northeast of the city of Tabriz at a depth of 9.9 km (6.2 miles). Continue Reading »

On Tuesday, Bulgarian Tourism Minister Delian Dobrev announced that forensic experts will soon be able to generate an image of the suicide bomber who killed six in the July 18 bus attack against Israelis in Burgas, according to the AFP.
