Chad, 4th Country in 4 Days to Promise Embassy in Jerusalem

Following Malawi, Serbia and Kosovo this week, the Chad cabinet chairman announced on Tuesday in Israel, that it plans to open a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem within a year.

Serbia and Kosovo, followed by Malawi, over the weekend announced their intentions to open a Jerusalem embassy.

According to Israel’s Intelligence Minister Eli Cohen, Chad’s cabinet chairman and the president’s son, Abdelkarim Déby, said his country would establish a diplomatic mission — and possibly an embassy — in the Israeli capital within the year.

“At the request of Minister Cohen, General Déby responded positively to advancing the establishment of an official representative office of Chad in Jerusalem,” a statement from the Intelligence Ministry said. Continue Reading »

HISTORY MADE: Netanyahu flies over South Sudan from Chad to Israel

For the first time, Sudan, which retains air control over its Southern neighbor, has given PM Netanyahu’s state aircraft permission to fly over South Sudan from Chad’s capital of N’Djamena to Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew back from Chad Sunday over South Sudan, the first time Sudan —  which still retains air control authority over South Sudan — has given an Israeli aircraft permission to fly over its southern neighbor.

This less circuitous route trimmed about an hour off the flight time from Chad’s capital of N’Djamena to Tel Aviv. However, the plane was still unable to fly the most direct route, which would have been north from Chad through the southwestern corner of Sudan into Egypt and then on to Israel.

Chad president vows renewal of diplomatic ties with Israel “in the coming weeks”

Having severed diplomatic relations with Israel in 1972, visiting Chadian President Idris Deby tells reporters that his African Muslim country plans to reestablish diplomatic ties with the Jewish State “in the coming weeks” to promote common interests.
