Video: Arab Youths Disrupt Bus Ride Just for Fun

Just Another day in Be’er Sheva: 2 young Arab boys on bus go from loud singing to rock throwing.

It was a scene typical of the times in Israel. On a Be’er Sheva bus carrying mostly elderly Jews, an Arab boy began singing out loud in a way that seemed calculated to convey his disdain for his fellow passengers.

Repeated attempts by passengers and the driver to get the boy to pipe down only resulted in more disruption, as the boy was joined by another, younger boy, in their annoying song.

Push came to shove, shove came to kick, and the boys were taken off the bus, which drove away – but not before the boys had thrown a rock that smashed a hole in the pane of one of its doors. Continue Reading »

CBS: Adult Males Perpetrated Most Israeli Crime in 2010

Israeli Arabs are estimated at 20% of the population, yet were over 40% of the offenders in 2010.

The country’s Jewish population made up around 50 percent of those charged with crimes in 2010, lower than their percentage of the population, while Israeli Arabs – an estimated 20% of the population – comprised over 40% of offenders the same year, according to figures released Tuesday by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

The overwhelming percentage of offenders charged with crimes in 2010 were men, and most of them were repeat offenders.
According to the report, 45,275 people were charged with crimes in Israel in 2010, over 90% of them adults. Continue Reading »

Israeli Arabs against mandatory service calls

Mandatory volunteering would increase the socioeconomic gaps, & that Arab communities lacks proper infrastructure, claims student union rep.

 

Israeli Arabs spoke out Tuesday against civilian national service, saying that “compulsory volunteerism” would only exacerbate extensive socioeconomic gaps between Arabs and Jews.

The comments came in response to proposals by Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin on Monday night to encourage Israeli Arabs, who make up 20.6 percent of Israel’s population, to undertake national civilian service.

Speaking to Arab council heads in Kafr Kasim at a Ramadan iftar meal, which breaks the daily fast, Rivlin said that Israeli Arabs would benefit from undertaking civilian national service within their local communities, and that their contributions would also bolster the Arab sector, which lacks manpower.
