Wife of imprisoned Israeli agent pleads with president to pressure Obama for her husband’s release: I don’t want to be a widow; Peres promises to make it top priority; Netanyahu: The time has come to free Pollard.

Esther Pollard, the wife of the convicted American Naval Intelligence analyst who has spent 27 years in prison for spying for Israel, on Sunday entreated President Shimon Peres to act immediately to try to secure her husband’s freedom before it is too late.

Pollard Rushed to Hospital

Jonathan Pollard was rushed to a hospital emergency room near his Butner, North Carolina prison.

Jonathan Pollard, convicted of spying for Israel and serving a life sentence without parole for 26 years, was rushed to a hospital emergency room near his Butner, North Carolina penitentiary early Friday after suffering from extreme pain, sources close to him said Friday.

Ashkenazi chief rabbi Yonah Metzger called upon Jews around the world to pray during the Passover holiday for the health and freedom of Pollard, whose Hebrew name is Yehonatan Ben-Malka.

President Shimon Peres will meet Sunday with MKs Uri Ariel and Ronit Tirosh who will hand him a letter for US President Barack Obama asking for the release of convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard. Continue Reading »

Peres to push Pollard’s release ahead of medal

Thousands sign petition that president should use presidential medal of freedom to press Obama over jailed Israeli agent.

President Shimon Peres said Tuesday that he would do whatever possible to bring about the release of Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard before he receives the Presidential Medal of Freedom from US President Barack Obama.

Peres responded to a petition signed by more than 15,000 people calling upon him to take advantage of being granted the medal as an opportunity to push Obama to commute Pollard’s sentence to the more than 26 years of his life sentence he has already served.

Peres asks Obama to free Pollard

Prime Minister Netanyahu also expected to raise issue for second time in meeting with US President.

 

President Shimon Peres asked US President Barack Obama to release Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard when they met at the White House on Sunday, Peres’s office said Monday.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will also raise Pollard’s fate with the US president when they meet Monday, officials in the Prime Ministers Office said.

Netanyahu officially asked Obama to commute Pollard’s life sentence to time served in January 2011. Since then, Obama has not responded.

Pollard’s wife Esther urged Obama to respond favorably to the repeated requests for the release of her husband, who has been in prison for more than 26 years.
