Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa paid his respects to former President Shimon Peres who passed away overnight Tuesday after suffering a stroke two weeks ago.

The White House just confirmed that President Obama will lead an American delegation to Israel to take part in Shimon Peres’s funeral on Friday.

The White House confirmed on Wednesday that President Barack Obama would travel to Israel to take part in the funeral of former President Shimon Peres on Friday.


“President Barack Obama will lead the U.S. delegation to Jerusalem to participate in the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres. Peres who was President of Israel until 2014, has been shortlisted for the award along with the Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, Peter Robinson; the Former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson; German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the US Secretary of State, John Kerry.
The Tipperary Peace Convention has stated that the winner will be announced in the coming days.

WATCH: Daughter of Iranian ayatollah brings message of peace to Israel




Former president Shimon Peres held a rare meeting Monday morning with a peace activist who is the daughter of an Iranian ayatollah.

Peres told Maryam Faghih Imani, the founder and president of the Centre for Cultural Diplomacy & Development (CCDD), that “when it comes to Iran, we really don’t know why Iran is against us. We are not against Iran.”

The former president said that Persian king Cyrus the Great had actually been the first Zionist, telling Jewish leaders to “take your people and go to your land.”

Faghih Imani, who lives in Norway and is currently on a visit to Israel, said that she believes “peace will come to the Middle East when we engage people of different sides.”

Former Israeli President Shimon Peres will meet an Iranian peace activist who arrived in Israel on a special visit to promote peace in the Middle East on Monday, a statement from Peres’ office said.

Maryam Faghih Imani, the daughter of Sayed Kamal Faghih Imani, a senior Iranian Ayatollah, “came to Israel to convey a message of reconciliation and dialogue among peoples,” the statement reads.

Bank Hapoalim, Israel’s largest bank, has retained the services of former President Shimon Peres to promote some of its business interests, the financial daily The Marker reported Monday.
