The White House just confirmed that President Obama will lead an American delegation to Israel to take part in Shimon Peres’s funeral on Friday.

The White House confirmed on Wednesday that President Barack Obama would travel to Israel to take part in the funeral of former President Shimon Peres on Friday.

“President Barack Obama will lead the U.S. delegation to Jerusalem to participate in the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres. BREAKING: Former Israeli President Peres admitted to hospital after suffering stroke

 

Israel’s TV2 confirmed that the 93 yr-old Peres is in serious condition.

Former president Shimon Peres was admitted to Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan on Tuesday evening after feeling unwell.

Shimon Peres was both former prime minister and president of Israel.

Peres was hospitalized twice earlier this year after showing signs of an irregular heartbeat.

On January 14, 2016 the same hospital released the senior statesman in stable condition after he had suffered a mild heart attack.

Peres who was President of Israel until 2014, has been shortlisted for the award along with the Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, Peter Robinson; the Former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson; German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the US Secretary of State, John Kerry.
The Tipperary Peace Convention has stated that the winner will be announced in the coming days.

Former president Shimon Peres held a rare meeting Monday morning with a peace activist who is the daughter of an Iranian ayatollah.

Peres told Maryam Faghih Imani, the founder and president of the Centre for Cultural Diplomacy & Development (CCDD), that “when it comes to Iran, we really don’t know why Iran is against us. We are not against Iran.”

Former Israeli President Shimon Peres will meet an Iranian peace activist who arrived in Israel on a special visit to promote peace in the Middle East on Monday, a statement from Peres’ office said.

Maryam Faghih Imani, the daughter of Sayed Kamal Faghih Imani, a senior Iranian Ayatollah, “came to Israel to convey a message of reconciliation and dialogue among peoples,” the statement reads.
