JNF paid $500,000 for Clinton’s Speech at Peres Academic Center

 

Former US president received hefty sum for a 45-min lecture at Peres’ birthday celebration

How much does a 45-minute lecture by former US President Bill Clinton cost? $500,000 is what The Jewish National Fund (JNF) has paid, one-year in advance, for the speech at the Peres Academic Center in Rehovot.

The event, which will be held on June 17, is part of the Israeli president’s 90th birthday celebrations.

The money for Clinton’s lecture was raised last year through the college’s supporters in cooperation with the Jewish National Fund. Continue Reading »

Shimon Peres says ‘No room for racism’ in his holiday message

Israel’s President condemns all forms of extremism and discrimination, says greater emphasis should be placed on education toward tolerance.

 

President Shimon Peres on Saturday night, the last night of the Jewish year 5772, sent New Year’s greetings to the nation with best wishes for peace and security, stability and growth.

Disturbed by recent outbreaks of racial and religious discrimination, Peres declared that there is no room for racism or violence of any kind in the country, and condemned all forms of extremism and discrimination based on race, religion or political affiliation.

Peres asks Obama to free Pollard

Prime Minister Netanyahu also expected to raise issue for second time in meeting with US President.

 

President Shimon Peres asked US President Barack Obama to release Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard when they met at the White House on Sunday, Peres’s office said Monday.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will also raise Pollard’s fate with the US president when they meet Monday, officials in the Prime Ministers Office said.

Netanyahu officially asked Obama to commute Pollard’s life sentence to time served in January 2011. Since then, Obama has not responded.

Pollard’s wife Esther urged Obama to respond favorably to the repeated requests for the release of her husband, who has been in prison for more than 26 years.
