Berlin European Maccabiah’s Shabbat Dinner Breaks Guinness World Record

14th European Maccabi Games hosted 2,322 Jewish athletes from all over the world in Berlin for largest Shabbat Dinner ever.

The European Maccabiah set a new Guinness world record – and it had nothing to do with sports.

New York Knicks basketball star Amar’e Stoudemire, seeking Israeli citizenship

Stoudemire’s agent, Happy Walters, told New York magazine that the Knicks’ power forward is in the process of becoming an Israeli.

Get Ready for the 19th Maccabiah Games from Jerusalem

For the 1st time since 2001, the opening ceremony is returning to Jerusalem.

 
 

Four years of waiting is to come to an end in spectacular fashion when the 19th Maccabiah gets underway with Thursday’s opening ceremony in the capital’s Teddy Stadium.

Around 32,000 people are expected to pack the stands, with thousands of Jewish athletes from 77 countries to march around the stadium as part of the Parade of Nations.

President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will be among the numerous local and foreign dignitaries present at the ceremony.

Foreign Ministry’s strike may cause no-shows for Maccabiah athletes

Israel’s Foreign Ministry workers have been holding the country hostage as their strike continues on.

 

JERUSALEM — The 19th Maccabiah Games could become the next victim of a strike by employees of Israel’s Foreign Ministry.

MaccabiahAthletes from 14 countries are unable to travel to Israel for the major sporting event because they need visas to enter the country.

Late last month, employees at Israeli embassies and consulates in the United States and around the world halted all consular services, including issuing visas. Exceptions are being made for medical emergencies, adoptions and transporting bodies for burial. The halt in consular services was the latest salvo in a 3-month-old labor dispute.

U.S. Gold Medal Olympian, Aly Raisman will compete in Maccabiah

The Jewish-American gymnast, will compete in the 19th Maccabiah Games this July.

Raisman performed her gold-medal winning floor exercise routine to ‘Hava Nagila’ at the 2012 London Olympics.

 

Cue “Hava Nagila,” Aly Raisman is coming to Israel.

The Jewish-American gymnast, who performed her gold-medal winning floor exercise routine to the tune of that traditional folk song at the 2012 London Olympics, will compete in the 19th Maccabiah Games this July, organizers announced Monday at a news conference at the Maccabiah Village in Ramat Gan.
