102 Gazans unable to enter Bethlehem for Palestine Marathon

 

Israeli authorities say ‘Palestinian officials are being provocative’ since the Palestinian Olympic Committee submitted the Gaza runners’ names late, leaving insufficient time for COGAT to prepare permits, then exploiting the sport for political gain by blaming Israel.

4,300 runners competed in the fourth annual Palestine Marathon on Friday in Bethlehem.

Despite the festive atmosphere, the event was not free of political tensions between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. 102 Gazans requested permission to participate in the race including Nader Al-Masri, who represented the Palestinians at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and won the Palestine Marathon last year. One name of 3 Israelis killed in Nepal avalanche has been released

 

Of 23 people rescued, about 15 climbers, including 12 Israelis, were recovering in a hospital in Kathmandu. Searches for any additional casualties resumed on Thursday morning.

Agam Luria, a 23 year old from Yifat, a kibbutz in the northern Galilee, was named as one of three Israeli hikers killed in a Himalayan avalanche on Wednesday.

A fourth Israeli is still missing, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday. The names of the two other casualties have yet to be released to the public.

At least 85 climbers are still unaccounted for after a blizzard dumped snow and triggered avalanches along a mountain trekking route popular with backpackers, the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal said on Thursday. Continue Reading »

U.S. Gold Medal Olympian, Aly Raisman will compete in Maccabiah

The Jewish-American gymnast, will compete in the 19th Maccabiah Games this July.

Cue “Hava Nagila,” Aly Raisman is coming to Israel.

The Jewish-American gymnast, who performed her gold-medal winning floor exercise routine to the tune of that traditional folk song at the 2012 London Olympics, will compete in the 19th Maccabiah Games this July, organizers announced Monday at a news conference at the Maccabiah Village in Ramat Gan.

Arabs call to boycott Jerusalem marathon, cancel football peace match

More & more Palestinian officials forbid local businesses & organizations from having private dealings with Israelis.

Despite claiming to foster peace and coexistence, the Palestinians this week called for a boycott of the Jerusalem marathon and cancelled a soccer exhibition that would have pitted Israeli and Palestinian players against international powerhouse FC Barcelona.

Up to 20,000 people from around the world were expected to take part in the third annual Jerusalem Marathon on Friday. The marathon has received international acclaim and attracted major foreign sponsors.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat had hoped the event could demonstrate coexistence and a joint desire by Israelis and Palestinians to build up the holy city. Continue Reading »
