1 killed, 10 injured in explosion at drilling site

Pipe explodes at Mekorot drilling site, releasing toxic chemicals; one person in critical condition, four are seriously wounded; residents in the area are not in any danger, Environmental Ministry says; Highway 90 closed.

One person was killed and ten were injured on Monday when a pipe of flowing hydrochloric acid exploded at a drilling installation near Ein Yahav in the Arava region of the South.

The injured were evacuated by helicopters and ambulances to Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba. One person was in critical condition, four in serious condition, and five others were lightly injured. Continue Reading »

In the backdrop of the uproar surrounding the Plesner Committee‘s discussions, the IDFis currently engaged in a lively debate of its own over whether to place religious soldiers in the various combat units or create a separate haredi brigade, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Monday.

IAF Strikes Terror Cell in Northern Gaza

IAF aircraft attacked a terrorist cell in northern Gaza on Monday morning, as it was preparing to launch rockets at southern Israel.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement that the aircraft scored a direct hit.

“The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers and will continue to act decisively and strongly against anyone who uses terror against Israel,” said the IDF statement.

Despite an Egyptian-brokered “ceasefire” recently announced by Hamas, terrorists from Gaza have continued to sproadically fire rockets at southern Israel. Continue Reading »

Hospital in Berlin suspends circumcisions after recent court ban.

Is the second exodus for Jews out of Germany coming? Seems like Jews won’t be able to practice their religion in Germany anymore after a recent court ruling banning circumcision for less than 18 year olds.

The Jewish Hospital of Berlin has decided to suspend all circumcisions of children for religious grounds following the ruling by a German court, a hospital spokesman said Friday.

“We are suspending circumcisions until the legal situation is clarified,” said Gerhard Nerlich, a hospital spokesman, citing the head of internal medicine Kristof Graf.
The Jewish hospital in Berlin (JKB) performs 300 circumcisions a year, including 100 for religious reasons and the rest for medical reasons. Continue Reading »

Teenagers arrested after gun attack by Manchester Yeshiva

Two 17 year old boys from Broughton, Manchester, have been arrested  on suspicion of possessing and discharging a firearm after an incident in the early hours of this morning when a gun was fired at the Yeshiva in Upper Park Road, Broughton.

 

The incident is not being treated as a hate crime or anti-Semitic.

No one was injured in the attack in the area of the Shaarei Torah Yehiva in the mainly Jewish area of Broughton Park at around 2am this morning. Two cars were reportedly driving erratically around the yeshiva, the largest of its kind in Manchester and a large multi-storey building prominent for its Hebrew writing fronting its street entrance. Israel fears Hezbollah will blockade sea in future war

Navy assessments are that Hezbollah will try to target cargo ships within 30-kilometer radius of Israel to try to get commercial vessels to refuse to sail there during war; senior navy officer: Operational capability exists.

 

Israel is concerned that in a future war with Hezbollah, the Lebanese guerilla group will try to impose a sea blockade on Israel by attacking civilian cargo ships.

The entire Iron Trails Brigade, a tank brigade within the IDF’s Armored Corps, was recently equipped with the Trophy active defense system. The new defense system identifies and eliminates anti-tank missiles before they can reach the tanks on which it is installed.

In the past month, the Iron Trails Brigade, which boasts a number of advanced Merkava Mark IV tanks, completed a significant exercise in conjunction with engineering forces. This drill involved cooperating with other units and focused on the advanced platforms used by the unit. Continue Reading »

U.S. Senate Calls for Moment of Silence During London Olympics

 U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution urging the  International Olympic Committee (IOC) to mark one minute of silence

 

 

As the world looks forward to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, many have called on the International Olympic Committee to recognize one of the darkest days in sports history, the murder of 11 athletes and coaches form the Israeli Olympic team at the 1972 Munich Olympics by Palestinian terrorists known as “Black September.”

On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution urging the  International Olympic Committee (IOC) to mark one minute of silence during the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, joining Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon and more than 81,000 signatories of a Move.org

Arab states withdraw prize over Israel visit

Paris-based Arab Ambassadors’ Council withdraws 15,000 euro from Algerian author Boualem Sansal for his May visit to Israel.

BERLIN – The Paris-based Arab Ambassadors’ Council pulled the plug last week on a 15,000 euro literary prize award to the distinguished Algerian author Boualem Sansal because he visited Israel in May, France 24 TV reported.

Sansal participated in a panel discussion with Daniel Ben-Simon, a Moroccan-born Labor MK, at the third International Writers Festival at Mishkenot Sha’ananim in Jerusalem.

Hamas termed the visit to Israel, “an act of treason against the Palestinian people.”

Report: Al-Qaida planning to crash U.S. airline during London Olympics

According to the Sunday Times, a Norwegian who was trained in Yemen plans to crash the plane on a suicide mission; British authorities say there is a shortage of personnel to carry out proper security screenings.

 

 

The al-Qaida branch in the Arabian Peninsula is believed to be planning a terror attack during the Olympic Games in London, scheduled to begin at the end of the month. According to a report in today’s Sunday Times, quoting intelligence services, the organization has recruited a Norwegian Muslim convert who was supposed to hijack a U.S. passenger plane and crash it on a suicide mission. Christian missionaries are apparently using Israeli government materials in their attempts to disseminate their materials both here in Israel and abroad.

The city of Kfar Saba was recently surprised to discover that it was apparently helping to sponsor a missionary event being held in Australia — at least, it appeared that way according to an invitation upon which its municipal crest appeared, together with the symbols of the three messianic churches organizing the event.
