Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and MK Yair Lapid, the leaders of Israel’s two biggest parties, have both said in recent days that Israel must resume negotiations with the Palestinian Authority with the goal of the creation of a new Arab state in Judea and Samaria. An Arab Muslim mother from northern Israel who is aspiring to a life in politics called out fellow Arab women on Tuesday for failing to differentiate between the Jews and Arabs with whom they are in conflict.

NASA reports catastrophic water loss for Middle East

Freshwater reserves in Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria & along the Tigris & Euphrates river basins have lost an incredible 117 million acre feet (144 km³) of total underground freshwater, the 2nd fastest loss of groundwater storage loss after India.

An amount of freshwater almost amounting to the volume of the Dead Sea has been lost in parts of the Middle East due to poor management, increased demands for groundwater and the effects of a 2007 drought, according to a NASA study.

Holocaust survivors protest for 3rd year against Allianz golf tournament

The Germany-based insurance group had Nazi connections during World War II, insuring Nazi facilities such as death camps like Auschwitz, the survivors say.

NEW YORK  — Holocaust survivors for a third straight year protested outside a golf tournament in Florida sponsored by Allianz because of what they deem the insurance firm’s restitution failures.

David Schaecter, David Mermelstein & Joe SachsThe survivors gathered outside the Allianz Golf Championship in Boca Raton over the weekend demanding that Allianz pay some $2 billion that the survivors say is owed to Nazi victims in unpaid claims, the Sun Sentinel reported.

“Not only haven’t I seen any money, this is already 70 years,” said David Schaecter, 83, a Holocaust survivor from Miami who is the president of Holocaust Survivors Foundation USA. Continue Reading »

The District Court in Lod removed the gag order on an investigation into Israel’s mysterious Prisoner X, an Australian citizen named Ben Zygier who allegedly committed suicide in an Israeli prison in 2010.

Jerusalem under ‘High’ terror alert

Security forces in Jerusalem raised their alert level on Tuesday following a general warning of a possible terror attack in the capital.

Police, firefighters and Magen David Adom emergency crews were instructed to raise their alert level.

Jerusalem Fire Department spokesman Asaf Abras said the order to raise the level of alertness was given by Jerusalem District police chief in light of a security warning.

Israel advocates ‘swift’ world condemnation to North Korea nuclear proliferation

Israel said on Tuesday that the international community must make clear to North Korea after its latest nuclear test that such activities cannot be tolerated.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the test, North Korea’s third in defiance of UN resolutions, and a ballistic missile launch in December raised “grave concerns” about proliferation of nuclear and ballistic technologies.

The Shin Bet, Israel Police and IDF have exposed and arrested a terror cell whose members infiltrated an IDF base on December 21, 2012, attacked a soldier on sentry duty and stole his weapon, an M-16.

The cell belonged to the Fatah movement, which is headed by Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Its members are residents of the Kalandia and a-Ram neighborhoods of Jerusalem. It is made up of five men aged 25 to 37, one of whom is an Israeli citizen. Continue Reading »

The Space IL organization has set an ambitious goal for itself – to send an Israeli spaceprobe to the moon in 2015. The project received significant backing on Monday when the Bezeq telecommunications company announced it had signed on.

A French organization that saved Jews during the Holocaust has declined to attend a commemoration because it was organized by pro-Israel Jews.

The Marseille branch of CIMADE, a French Protestant group established in 1939, declined to attend the region’s main memorial ceremony for Jewish Holocaust victims because of the pro-Israel attitude of CRIF, the umbrella group representing French Jewish communities, which organized the event together with the municipality.

The Environmental Protection Ministry will impose NIS 3,830,469 worth of financial sanctions on the IDF due to the army’s negligence with respect to asbestos removal, the ministry announced on Monday evening.

asbestosDespite the fact that the Environment Ministry had ordered the army to evacuate an asbestos hazard from an area adjacent to Beersheba’s Natan Shalid base seven months ago, the IDF has failed to do so, according to the ministry.

Instead, panels laden with asbestos have sat exposed to the open air and have caused health hazards to soldiers, the ministry explained.
