Israeli embassy’s Facebook page posted Palestinians would ‘lynch’ Jewish, Jesus & Mary

Bethlehem, once a thriving town, 80% Christian, dwindled down to a mere 15% due to religious persecution by the ruling Palestinian Muslims.  The mistreatment of Christians and Jews is nothing new. Gaza, Lebanon & Egypt’s demographics reflect the same phenomenon.

The comment was true….just not diplomatic.

The official Facebook page of Israel’s embassy to Ireland this morning posted, and then abruptly deleted, a provocative message arguing that “hostile Palestinians” would “lynch” Jesus Christ and his mother, Mary, if they lived in today’s Bethlehem. The town of Jesus’s birth is today part of the Palestinian West Bank.

Khaled asks: Who Will Save the Christians of the Gaza Strip?

Are the Palestinian Christians in the Gaza Strip really being kidnapped by Muslims who force them to convert to Islam?

This is a story that is considered taboo among many Palestinians, who prefer to lay all the blame only on Israel.

According to the Greek Orthodox Church in the Gaza Strip, at least five Christians have been kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam in recent weeks.

If anyone has good reason to fear for his life it is Archbishop Alexios, head of the Greek Church in the Gaza Strip, who is spearheading the protests against persecution of Christians and forced conversions. Continue Reading »

Christians, Jews to unite against Islam?

Op-ed: Will Jews, Christians finally join forces in battle against genocidal Islamic hatred?

The Coliseum, where thousands upon thousands of “Judaeis” have been massacred by the Roman emperors, became for one night an arena for alliance between Christians and Jews against “odium fidei,” or religious hatred.

Last Wednesday in Rome, Jewish leaders for the first time rallied alongside Christians in a candlelit vigil to denounce the attacks in the Middle East and Africa. It was “interfaith” or “ecumenical” dialogue at its best. Forget the theological questions, which remain unsolvable. There is an urgent mutual solidarity about the single most defining issue of our time: religious freedom. Continue Reading »

Backlash builds over ‘60 Minutes’ hatchet job on Israel

Backlash from Jews & Christians alike over ‘60 Minutes’ inaccurate reporting on Israel

The “60 Minutes” hit piece on Israel, about which I reported Monday, has unleashed a firestorm of protest from pro-Israel groups and Middle East experts. CBS now denies there was anything wrong with the report.

I asked CBS spokesmen a series of questions on the number of complaints received, the failure to accurately identify “pro-Christians” for the piece, the lack of balance in its depiction of Christians’ treatment in Israel and whether their would be an internal review. I was provided instead with this statement from “60 Minutes”:

We received an organized negative email campaign of the type we don’t count because all of them were duplicates of the same letter sent from the same organization, Christians United for Israel, which apparently wrote the letter and urged others to resend it to CBS News.

Bethlehem’s last Christians?

World, churches silent in face of Islamic persecution of Palestinian Christians

Veteran CBS News anchor Bob Simon just reported on the Palestinian Christians, indicting Israel’s “occupation” as responsible for their dramatic disappearance. The 60 Minutes story caused Israel tremendous PR damage.

Yet largely ignored by Western media, a systematic campaign of Muslim persecution against the Christians is taking place in Palestinian areas. It’s a religious and ethnic cleansing campaign silenced by the global churches.

Christians have long been the frontrunners of Arab nationalism. The most prominent Palestinian intellectual was a Christian, Edward Said. Continue Reading »

Netanyahu was briefed on efforts to stop ’60 Minutes’ report on Israel’s Christians

PM was fully updated by Israeli ambassador to U.S. Michael Oren on his attempts to halt an investigative report on Israel’s treatment of its Christian community which he thought would harm Israel’s interests.

The attempts by Israeli ambassador Michael Oren to halt the broadcast of a “60 Minutes” investigative report on the Christian community in Israel and the West Bank were carried out after a series of consultations with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his political adviser Ron Dermer.

It is unclear whether Netanyahu or Dermer were the ones who instructed or suggested that Oren directly address the president of CBS in an attempt to prevent the broadcast, but the two were fully informed on the affair almost since its start.

Five years have now passed since the Malatya murders, an incident that was perhaps the most tragic and brutal murder of Christians in modern-day Turkey.

“You see everyday is April 18. Everyday I have to live without him,” widow Susanne Geske told CBN News on the one year anniversary of her husband’s murder. Continue Reading »

Palm Sunday marks the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem, where he was greeted by cheering crowds bearing palm fronds, according to the Bible.

The day’s events began with a mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher – revered as the site where Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected. Several hundred worshippers and clergy lit candles and waved palm fronds in the dark, cavernous church. Continue Reading »

Waiting for the Messiah: Netanyahu addresses Evangelical Christian gathering in Jerusalem

Head of Christians United for Israel, largest pro-Israel lobby in U.S., compares PM to Moses and King David.

American Evangelical pastor John Hagee – who heads the largest pro-Israel lobby group in the United States – half jokingly compared Benjamin Netanyahu to the Messiah on Sunday night, as he waited for the delayed prime minister to arrive at a Jerusalem hotel to address the crowd.

“There’s a saying in Judaism about the Messiah – I know that even if he tarries, he’ll come,” Hagee told hundreds of members of Christians United for Israel. “I know that the prime minister will come, and even if he tarries, he’ll come.”
