History at the United Nations: Israel Elected to Chair Major Legal Committee

 

Despite efforts by Iran, which currently chairs the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as opposition from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which include many member-states hostile to Israel, enough votes were secured on Monday to make history, ensuring Israel’s Ambassador would lead the United Nations Legal Committee.

Those were the words of Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon on Tuesday as he looked out over a packed General Assembly Hall at the start of an event opposing the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

UN Ignores Reports of Hezbollah’s Daily Violations on Israel’s Northern Border

 

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, says the UN is giving Hezbollah free pass when 2,374 reports of violations of Israel-Lebanon Security Council resolution 1701 were completely ignored in 2015.

Israel’s border with Lebanon is violated on a daily basis, according to a new report by the Israeli Mission to the United Nations.

The report also shows the degree to which UN resolutions are ignored and even tolerated – despite the presence of United Nations observers. In 2015 alone, there were fully 2,374 documented violations of the most recent UN ruling on the Israel-Lebanon border, UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

Likud Central Committee chairman Danny Danon, who is challenging Binyamin Netanyahu for leadership of the party, on Saturday night called on Israel to respond to an expected UN recognition of the Palestinian Authority (PA) as the “state of Palestine” by declaring sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.

Israel’s Deputy Defense Minister has called on the Israeli government to “annul the Oslo Accords,” and adopt an alternative to the much-touted “Two State Solution” which would see the establishment of a Palestinian Arab state in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.

MK Nissim Zeev (Shas) had filed a parliamentary query regarding the IDF response to ongoing assaults at Kever Rachel in Bethlehem.

A joint initiative by Knesset members and the U.S. Congress is calling on President Barack Obama, scheduled to visit Israel in a few weeks, to secure the release of imprisoned Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard in time to bring the news to Israel personally on his visit.

A Mere 28% Still Believe in ‘Palestinian Partner’ Poll

Only 28.2% of Israelis believe that Israel has a partner for peace in negotiations with the Palestinians, according to a new survey conducted by Gal Hadash for Yisrael Hayom. 62.4% say there is no partner for peace.

The Arab population of Judea, Samaria and Gaza is currently politically split. Those in Gaza are ruled by Hamas, which rejects Israel’s existence and calls to destroy the Jewish state.

Knesset Member Danon: PA’s UN Bid Means Israeli Sovereignty Bid

PM must tell PA leaders that if they seek recognition as a state in ‘West Bank’, Israel will seek to annex the region, MK says.

Likud MK Danny Danon has a response to the Palestinian Authority’s plan to seek United Nations recognition as a state. If the PA seeks statehood unilaterally, he told Arutz Sheva, Israel must unilaterally annex Judea and Samaria (Shomron).

Past experience with the PA’s UN bids shows there is no need to fear the “political tsunami” predicted by Defense Minister Ehud Barak last time, he said.
