Asia beats US as Israel’s #1 export destination for 2014

Exports to Asia in 2013, nearly equaled those to the United States for the 1st time, coming within 0.6% points as a share of Israel’s total exports.

 

 
The Asian region will overtake the US as Israel’s second biggest export destination this year, the Economy Ministry said.

The region is expected to come in as Israel’s second-largest trade partner for 2014 behind the European Union, shifting the United States into third place, according to the ministry’s Foreign Trade Authority.

A spending plan embraced by a Senate committee would insert $200,000 into the next state budget to open an office in Israel.

The Senate and House have each passed bills that would require the Department of Economic Development to establish an office in Israel.

The Bank of Israel Sunday advised Israeli banks to begin gearing up to provide information about their U.S. clients to U.S. tax authorities, as provided in the U.S. Foreign Tax Compliance Act.

The statement was issued by the central bank in an effort to ensure that Israeli banking institutions will be ready to comply with FATCA when it goes into effect, in July.

Israeli defense firm to help secure US border with Mexico

Israeli defense firm Elbit wins $145 million contract to build surveillance towers along Arizona’s border with Mexico.

The Israeli defense company Elbit Systems confirmed on Wednesday that they had received a $145 million contract by the United States Department of Homeland Security to build security towers on Arizona’s border with Mexico.

The company wrote in a press release on their website that the “Integrated Fixed Tower Project” would be implemented “over an approximately 12-month period.”

The work, which will apparently include cameras and radars with the capability to detect human movement, will be carried out by Elbit Systems of America, which is the company’s US subsidiary. Continue Reading »

Noida, Feb 24 (IANS) Israel has invited Indian companies to take part in extracting natural gas from its newly-found reserves, with 40 percent of the produced hydrocarbon reserved for exports, even as it wants talks on a free trade pact to fructify soon.

PM Netanyahu Advances Israel-China Alliance in Davos

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The two discussed the budding alliance between the nations, which has developed rapidly since Wang’s first visit to Israel last December.

Israel is continuing to improve its relations with Turkey, increasing the quota on the number of Turkish foreign workers in the country.

The social-financial cabinet made a decision recently, which until now has been kept in a low profile, that will raise the number of Turkish foreign workers in the construction industry in Israel to 1,200 from 800.

Liberman has a new friend, China’s Foreign Minister

Amid signs of an emerging alliance between the two nations, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Thursday, welcoming Wang’s first visit as another step in strengthening bilateral relations.

As part of the rapidly warming ties, the two agreed to upgrade the annual national dialogue between Israel and China to a more senior level.

An independent study by a global strategic consulting and research firm, reveals that Israeli-founded businesses generate enormous jobs, revenue & capital activity in Massachusetts.

 

 

BOSTON — Companies with connections to Israel contributed $6.2 billion to the Massachusetts economy last year, a new study found.

The study, released on Thursday, was conducted by the consulting firm Stax and supported by Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Boston. It found that, when accounting for other business spending, the full economic impact of companies with Israel ties contribute $11.9 to the state economy.

Israel and the Palestinian Authority have agreed to renew the agricultural accords that were in place prior to the outbreak of the “Second Intifada” terror war in 2000.

Agricultural officials from both sides met and agreed to establish a regional center for economic and agricultural cooperation.

Israel & India: 2 Great Democracies that Should Widen their Strategic Ties

India-Israel ties have been deepening for many years now, but there are still many more  common endeavors the 2 countries could be working on together.

At first glance, Hindu-majority India, with approximately 1.2 billion people and an entire subcontinent, would seem to have little in common with Jewish-majority Israel, which has only about eight million people living on territory that’s just roughly 15 times the size of India’s capital city. While full diplomatic relations were established between Jerusalem and New Delhi only in 1992, the two countries actually have much in common.
