Turkish newspaper reports that security forces both in Germany and Turkey apprehended Iranians who smuggled nuclear materials from India & Germany to Iranian facility in Arak

Security forces in Germany and Turkey apprehended smugglers who are suspected of moving nuclear materials purchased in India and Germany to a nuclear facility in the Iranian city of Arak, Turkish newspaper Haberturk reported.

The raid was carried out in Germany and in Istanbul simultaneously. In Istanbul, an Iranian-born Turkish citizen was detained for questioning and forces seized many documents relating to the smuggling. Continue Reading »

Morsi’s “apes and pigs” slur pursue him in Germany

Morsi in Berlin to gather financial aid for rebuilding his crumbling Egyptian economy, however questions about the hateful, anti-Semitic comments he made, calling Jews “apes and pigs”, pursue him throughout the day.

Morsi: I’m not against the Jewish faith or the Jewish people.

Egypt’s Islamist President Mohammed Morsi turned aside repeated criticism of his past comments referring to Jews as “the descendants of apes and pigs” as he visited Germany on Wednesday, insisting that the remarks were taken out of context and were aimed at criticizing Israeli attacks on Palestinians.

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton paid a special tribute to Holocaust survivors, in a statement released on International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Sunday.

Ashton said that the survivors of the Holocaust “remind us of this tragedy that we must never forget.”

“Today we remember the victims of the Holocaust. We honor every one of the six million who were brutally murdered in this darkest period of European history,” Ashton stated.

She stressed the importance of remembering that the crime was not perpetrated by a few individuals, but that many were involved directly and indirectly.

BERLIN – The inclusion of a Spiegel online columnist in a 2012 top-ten list of anti-Semites has sparked a fierce debate in the German media since the beginning of the new year.zaz

The Simon Wiesenthal Center ranked Jakob Augstein ninth for his written attacks on Jews and the State of Israel. He is a columnist for Spiegel online, owns a large stake in the Hamburg-based Der Spiegel magazine, and is owner of the left-wing weekly Der Freitag.

There is a genuine risk that core Jewish religious practices may come under attack through the European Court of Human Rights.  A verdict against circumcision in that court would apply in all 47 member states of the Council of Europe (including the U.K., France, Russia, and Ukraine).

German parliament passes federal law protecting circumcision ceremony

The new law, with restrictions for the 1st time, requires that the procedure be carried out by a medically trained and certified practitioner or by a medical professional, and that anesthetic be used if needed.

BERLIN– The German parliament passed a law protecting the right of Jewish and Muslim parents to choose a ritual circumcision for their sons.

In all, 434 legislators voted Wednesday for the new law proposed by the federal government; there were 100 votes against, and 46 abstentions. The vote came after months of heated debate over the practice, spurred in large part by a German court ruled earlier this year that called into question the legality of ritual circumcision for children. Legal dispute over: Germany resumes ritual circumcisions

Ministry issues new legislation protecting family’s right to religious circumcision after court bans practice, outraging Germany’s Muslims and Jews.

BERLIN – Shopkeeper Nevzat Cavan is rushing to meet orders for the white, fur-trimmed costumes worn by Muslim boys for their circumcision, relieved that Berlin’s city government has allowed the operations to resume.

For three months, the elaborate suits, capes and oriental slippers languished unsold due to a shock court ruling that raised the possibility of criminal charges being brought against families who had their sons circumcised.

“The culprit evidently felt provoked by the sight of a Jewish prayer book,” said Stephan Kramer, general secretary of the Central Council of Jews.

A city police spokesman said “mutual threats” during the Wednesday incident were being investigated, but declined to give more details.

BERLIN ­ – A spokesman for Germany’s foreign ministry told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that the Federal Republic was examining whether the criteria exist to outlaw the Iran-sponsored Hezbollah within the 27-member European Union.

The spokesman’s comment appears to be the first public acknowledgement that Germany is contemplating a move to ban the Islamist group.

Prominent lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Iranian security experts discovered the explosives and removed them before detonation, adding that authorities believe the booby-trapped equipment was sold to derail uranium enrichment efforts.
