Border Police kill drug smuggler, capture contraband near Israel-Egypt border

In a firefight near Israel’s southern border with Border Police forces, one smuggler is killed as large smuggling operation was foiled with dozens of kilograms of drugs and vehicle seized.
• No injuries were reported among Israeli security personnel.

Border Police thwarted a drug smuggling operation near the Israel-Egypt border overnight. One smuggler was killed during a firefight that erupted during the operation. No injuries were reported among the Israeli troops.

According to available details, the Israeli troops, following a lead provided by the Negev and Border Intelligence Unit on an impending drug smuggling operation, deployed in the northern part of the border. Continue Reading »

Israel completes heightening Egyptian border fence to 8 meters

 

Israel’s border fence was extended from 5 meters to 8 meters high along a 17-kilometer stretch is meant to squash the trickle of illegal African migration, and drug & weapons trafficking from the Sinai.

Israel has finished raising the height of the electronic “smart” fence along part of the border with Egypt to stop infiltration into the country by migrants, the Defense Ministry reported.

Construction of the original barrier, equipped with information collection centers and warning systems and known as the Hourglass Project, was completed in 2014 at a height of five meters along 242 kilometers, from the Gaza Strip to Eilat on the Red Sea. Continue Reading »

IDF shoots 2 ‘would-be terrorists’ in attempted infiltration from Egypt

2 armed men shot after ignoring warning from IDF soldiers in attempted infiltration of Israel-Egypt border, IDF spokeswoman says.

 

Two men were shot and injured during an attempted infiltration of the Israel-Egypt border on Sunday night, the IDF said.

IDF On Southern BorderSeveral unidentified gunmen approached the Israeli border from the Sinai Peninsula, and attempted to cross the border fence, an army spokeswoman said. At the same time, a vehicle arrived from the Israeli side, and approached the border fence, driving towards the men, and entering a closed military zone.

Soldiers shouted out warnings to the suspects to stop, but were ignored, an army spokeswoman said.
