The Palestinian Authority has accused Israel of imposing “collective punishment” on the Palestinians because of the Israeli electric company’s decision to reduce power supply to parts of the West Bank due to debts.

Palestinian Authority Settle its Electricity Debt with Israel Electric Company

After forced blackouts in Jenin and Shechem over unpaid electric bills, 300 million shekels of PA tax money to be transferred to the Israel Electric Company.

The Israel Electric Company (IEC) and the Palestinian Authority (PA) reached a temporary settlement Thursday, after the IEC introduced rolling blackouts in protest to outstanding debts.

Under the agreement, the PA will transfer some 300 million shekel (about $75,800,000) in tax money to the IEC in exchange for a halt on the blackouts, which the IEC introduced earlier this week after multiple warnings over the debt.

MAJOR Daily Mail blunder – twice: It claims Israel flooded ‘Gaza’s major West Bank cities’

Unbelievable inaccuracies for UK news media:
1. There are no dams in southern Israel
2. Nablus & Jenin cannot be “two of Gaza’s major West Bank cities.”

 

British paper The Daily Mail published a story on Monday that originally accused Israel of intentionally opening dams in southern Israel in order to flood Gaza. The only problem is, as writer and Lydia Willgress has learned the hard way, there are no dams in southern Israel.

Israel’s state-owned electric company cut power to two major Palestinian cities in the West Bank on Monday for roughly 45 minutes over a huge debt of NIS 1.9 billion ($492 million).
