1940s Irgun revolver recovered during weapons collection op

During the nation-wide operation to collect unlicensed weapons, police recover a 1940s pistol that belonged to a deceased ‘Farmers’ Association’ member.

 

Entire operation collected roughly 2,000 weapons

A “Wobbly” model revolver, used by a member of the Association of Farmers during the 1940s, was one of the finds of an operation to collect unlicensed weapons, carried out in the Northern District. Police noted that 2,000 arms were seized, some belonging to people who were no longer alive. The operation is taking place nationwide.

Jews Forbidden to Ascend the Temple Mount As Muslims Threaten More Violent Riots

Once again, Israel Police barred Jews from ascending onto the Temple Mount after Muslim groups threaten more violence over a planned visit by Jewish children.

Police barred Jews from entering the Temple Mount on Thursday, after Muslim groups threatened violence in the wake of a plan to bring Jewish children to visit the site. The plan, organized by groups encouraging Jewish visits to the Mount, was meant to be an educational program that would demonstrate rituals associated with the Temple, such as the bringing of bikurim (“First Fruits”, the gift to the Temple brought on Shavuot). Israel honors 23,085 fallen soldiers & police officers this Memorial Day

At 8:00 P.M. a 1-minute siren will sound nation-wide, marking the opening of IDF and Terror Victims Remembrance Day, followed by commemoration ceremonies.

Memorial Day for Israel’s fallen soldiers will begin at 4 P.M. on Sunday with a ceremony at Yad Lebanim in Jerusalem, attended by the prime minister, the speaker of the Knesset and the Sephardi and Ashkenazi chief rabbis.

Over 5000 Cops to Protect Obama

Israel will be dedicating a great deal of its resources and security services to ensure a successful visit for the U.S. President.

Israel will be dedicating a great deal of its resources to ensuring a successful visit for U.S. President Barack H. Obama, due here Wednesday. Thousands of police will be taken off their usual crime-fighting patrols and be deployed in the service of Obama’s large contingent.

ObamaOver 5,000 police will be directly involved in providing security for Obama and his entourage, while hundreds of others will be helping out in indirect ways. 400 Police officers raid criminals’ homes in Negev

At the crack of dawn on Wednesday, over 400 police officers raided the homes of suspected weapons and stolen property-holders in the Negev. This was one of the biggest campaigns known to the Southern Police District.

The raid occurred in a number of Bedouin towns and in the surrounding area. Throughout the campaign, five stolen vehicles, NIS 300,000 ($82,000) in cash, six guns, two rifles, 420 purportedly stolen gas balloons and IDF bullet-proof vests were discovered. Continue Reading »

Settlers leave illegal outpost peacefully

Day after fighting with Border Police & soldiers, dozens of rightist activists depart quietly from illegal outpost of Oz-Zion

Dozens of rightist activists who camped out at the illegal West Bank outpost of Oz Zion overnight left the area of their own accord on Saturday evening.

The activists grabbed their belongings minutes after the sun had set and continued on to the nearby outpost of Givat Asaf. IDF troops watched over their departure.

Honor killings in Israel puts police in complicated situation

Much too often, Israel is accused of trying to “Judaize” the country and/or interfering in minority societies, when the gov’t steps in to enforce Israeli law & order.

The recent murder of a 16-year-old Israeli Arab girl by her brother for the sake of “family honor” has many howling at the Israel Police for doing too little to eliminate the phenomenon of so-called “honor killings.”

The murder occurred about three weeks ago, when 24-year-old Ahmed al-Assam slit the throat of his sister, Aisha, following a heated argument about her relationship with another boy.

Aisha had previously moved in with her boyfriend, but had returned home at her parents’ urging, and with promises that she would come to no harm at the hands of her brother. Continue Reading »

A female IDF soldier filed a police complaint against a haredi man whom she claims spat on her and her mother while the two were sitting inside their car on the Bar Ilan road in Jerusalem.

Police scanned the area but could not trace the man. “I felt helplessness and frustration,” Haleli Yitzhak said.

According to the soldier, the haredi man shouted the words “Good women, good women” at her and then spat at her mother. Continue Reading »

Next Step Approved in Jerusalem for Homes for Retired IDF & Police

Peace Now says Israel has taken the next step in building new homes for retired police & IDF troops in Jerusalem neighborhoods.

Israel has taken the next step in the process of building new homes for retired police and IDF troops in parts of Jerusalem restored to the city in the 1967 Six Day War. A plan to build the new neighborhood is being marketed to potential developers, according to the leftist Peace Now organization.

U.S. citizen kills worker at Eilat hotel, then killed by police

The New Yorker, in his twenties, was working at the Leonardo Club Hotel as part of a program affiliated with Masa Israel Journey, for U.S. youth in Israel.

A 33-year-old Eilat hotel worker was killed on Friday morning by a gunman who stole a firearm from a security guard at the Leonardo Club Hotel in the southern city, and opened fire.

The shooter, a 23-year-old American citizen from New York, also an employee of the hotel, was later killed by police during an exchange of gunfire. Continue Reading »

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), IDF, and Judea and Samaria district police arrested two men who confessed to taking part in the brutal October 2000 lynch of two IDF soldiers, security forces announced Thursday.

The arrests came after the Shin Bet and police uncovered an extensive Hamas terror structure in Ramallah and the Binyamin region, and arrested other suspects along with the two men.

Law enforcement missions from over 40 nations to arrive in Israel next week for three-day conference on crime fighting

Some 200 senior delegates from law enforcement agencies across 40 European nations will arrive in Israel next week, to attend the International Interpol Convention

This will be the first time Israel hosts the prestigious event

The Israel Police was selected to host the event, which aims to promote cooperation between law enforcement agencies and authorities worldwide.

The three-day conference will be held in Tel Aviv and headed by InterpolPresident Khoo Bon Hui and its Secretary-General Ronald Noble.

Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch and Police Commissioner Yohanan Daninowill attend the gala opening, as will the heads of all other law enforcement agencies in Israel. Continue Reading »
